i use to fish tounaments alot. the best bait that i have ever used for flatheads on rivers (ohio mainly) is chub minnows. skipjack herring and shad usually worked best for the big blues. soft craws work any where for channels but don't produce the size that other baits can.

Try bluegills as bait.Friends down south say they work great on the big "cats".

Alley Cat cat food and a homemade dip. 30 yrs of experience and banning from the local pay lakes can't be wrong. Plus an 82# flat head and several other large cats.

I use goldfish, bluegills, chubs, and a yellowbelly cat for bait.We had a cold front move through over the weekend and it really shut the fish down.

i will agree with the chubs. I do love light jigging a Live Shad in a deep hole near the Cannelton Dam on the Ohio for Jumbo Blues. Peeled Tiger shrimp works good in the river for channels and flathead but the bait is very expensive.

I use live suckers for the big shovelheads(flatheads) and i like to catch bluegills and cut their heads off and use the heads only, i have found they wont hit the bodies but will gobble the heads up....the biggest i have caught is a 40# flathead here in Michigan....Tony

You all need to go to http://www.catfish1.com and join the Brotherhood of Catfishermen. There is everything you need to know about catfishing on that board. I am posting a picture of a small channel cat I caught today, just a 4 pounder. I often catch channels twice that size and occasionally hook up with a big flathead. I won't go into baits here, you can find that information on the catfish board. I catfish nearly every day in the summer. My beagles don't get hunted much. But, that will soon change. I do have spots where I can run my beagles and catfish at the same time.

That boy of mine is sure proud of that fish. He is gone to gilbert;s pay lake tonight to see if he can top top that one. He said he will show me how to catch the big ones one day.
Try chicken kool-aid in the pay lakes.
catalpa worms are on the trees right now.

I have got a lot of catfish pictures I have taken this year. Here is one I took this week. Some folks say you can catch catfish on cheese bait.
