Rabies Shot
Is it normal for a dog to have some soreness where there shots were given, like a baby and there shots?,,,Mine are kinda limpy after getting theres? Thanks shannon
rabies
The rabies shot is normally given subcutaneously so ther shouldn't be any more soreness than with a 7 in 1. In NC rabies has to be given by a vet and my vet always shoots them up around the neck area.

In TN we have to have a vet give rabies shots The one I used to use gives them in the neck the one I use now gives it in the left rear leg. Mine never even flinch when given a shot and are running when we get home. Did you give the shot when you gave the shot did you draw blood when you stuck it if you did the shot was given wrong. I let my wife give the shots here at home of their vaccinations she is a nurse so she knows more than I do about it Heck she can draw it out of the vile with out even pulling on the serynge. So now I hold the dogs she gets to give it to them.

My vet also gives in the rear leg, at least one of them does, the other in the front shoulder. I had given a pup a DHLPP shot a week or so ago. Shot went well, no blood, no air. That night I got home from work and it was really lumped up. Also was limping the next morning. New experience for me. All was well after that. I just kept a close eye on him. All I can think is maybe its because he is bonier than others...Dont know for sure though.

Some dogs when you inject those shots the shot stays there and will slowly desolve Rocky does that and within a couple of days it goes down I don't know what it is but give the rest the same thing and nothing no lump And rocky is a big hound too he is one of my coonhound @ 4 months he weighed 42 lbs

Thats odd I have never really noticed anything after watching my dogs get shots. By the way I have a new pup and my parents have always taken care of the shots by taking them to the vet. I am doing all the shots this time. I am going to give one at 6,9, & 12 weeks but how old do they have to be for the rabies shots? I am going to let my vet give that to them, but when do I need to take them in?

When I was out in ID, the vet at the base gave the rabies shot IM instead of sub Q. That seemed weird to me, but I didn't notice any adverse reaction other than a yelp when administering the shot.
