black and tans

Post by Big Dog »

Murl you will have to show me the money on this one. I have never seen a full blooded beagle that was black and tan that didn't have some white on him somewhere, whether it is on his toes, under his throat, on his chest, in my years I have yet to see one that had no white on it anywhere. I talked to Don Bramlett about this several years ago and he basically stated the same thing. It may be a really small patch of white, but I have never seen one without at least a little bit of white.

junior,,,,,,,,,,,,what do you consider a bluetick to look like,,,,,,,a true bluetick has no brown on it,,,,,but every one considers them bluetick,,,,if the dogs dominate color is more than 95% with just a softball size of white in its chest id consider it to be black and tan,,,,and id register it that way,,,,,,,,but this is just my opinion,,,,,
my fist aint the size of a softball and i doubt that many of our hands on here are, but this is true

alright now that cpu is running right i can make the post i tried to make last night. The above statement was a joke (about the fist and softball), not about agreeing with lone wolf. And thanks to all who have answered my odd questions. And thanks to Bev for holding the contest, i as most of the rest of you, definately enjoyed lookin at all the pictures of the different dogs. and yes i think they all were good-looking hounds. thanks to all that posted pictures of the hounds.

Nothing odd about your question and I feel you are correct. People have miss labeled their hounds on colour mostly from the start, but as Bev. has stated, this is all for fun and she makes up the rules.
Watch the lemon/white contest, you will see everything from liver- red- orange- tan- to pure lemon/white show up, but it's all just for fun, so however misleading, enjoy the show... ;)

Patch, I don't know what bug crawled up your butt, but I'm sick of the cloaked insults. Take a chill pill and post one of your many lemon and whites. Show us what one looks like.

I would also like to thank Bev for giving us the oportunity to share pictures of our dogs with each other. When I put ole Scouts picture on the black and tan contest thread,I was worried he may have to much white on him, his legs are not perfect, and his ears to long to short who knows and there is the gap from the barb wire fence incident. His hind quaters,
not in the right place and his feet too big and his tail to short oh yea I forgot to mention the chunk of meat missing from the first time
young future rabbit hunter, who finaly figured out rabbits dont look like Scout . Ole Scout still flinches ever time you mention that boys name. But I got to thinking why I was doing it any way and the answer was to have fun. When you reach a point in life in which having fun becomes more important than winning a contest .You will find life to be soooooo much better. I have really enjoyed looking at all the dogs and trying to learn how to show a dog, before this contest I really never tried hard to show my dogs I have mostly just rabbit hunted or attended field trails.I have placed in a few bench shows but never really tried. To me it is a new way to have fun. Its a lot harder than it looks trying to get a dog stacked up I beleive that is the correct term.I have also been paying closer attention to a dogs conformation now. I have still got some learning to do. But I am having fun, yall are not going to beleive this I even gave a couple of my dogs a bath the other day. I Think they even ran better just like your truck seems to run better right after you give it a bath.I think I will walse on over to the lemon dog contest and have some fun checking out BEAGLES.

Mrs. Bev.
I don't know under what light your seeing a bug up my butt. I said nothing displeasing about the showing of the hounds, only the fact that many are mislabled as to colour. Lanelefgren & I have talked about this at some length and they are keen on what markings denote colour, as for me, I resort to my colour crayon box and make matches from there. The 64 count box I've found to be best as the 128 count box has to many shades of grey...
I also only repeated what you said of this being about the fun of seeing everyones hounds.
Your attempt to show me in a bad light is noted though, and if you want me gone, just say so...if not, don't imagine what is not there... ;) ...next you'll be claiming I'm making a target of you...lol

Hey Tony,
Glad your having fun and finally decided to give them dogs a bath...
I'm also glad we have this board to learn from but should be free to question anything that might be questionable without fear of retribution from the powers that be.
Jr. had a simple question, I and probably many others thought it was a good one, of just how much white a black/tan could have and still be considered a black an tan. No big deal, right...

Ok Bev., I've reread my post and you'll have to point out to me where the "cloaking" is taking place and what insult was intended, I'm just not seeing it... :???:

PATCH the only dumb or bad question is one thats not asked. I am here to learn ,but on the top of my list is fun . I still have trouble filling out registeration papers on a dog when it comes to colors.I have seen several other people with the same problem,I tried looking at some pictures on the akc color standard,I have seen some dogs and have some that does not fit any of the dogs that are shown, maybe some of my dogs are not beagles lol. whered that feller go that sold me that dog.

Well, I consider that post very insulting, "a bug in my butt"...
I've never made slanderous referrals to any of your body parts.
"Take a chill pill", is that one of those new drugs they take at those rave party's you hear about or is that a "cloaked insult"?
"post one of your many lemon and whites", actually true lemon/whites are some what rare, I'd be interested to know what hound so far on the lemon/white show is at the limit, in your opinion?

Hey Tony,
You want to borrow my colour crayons...lol
Yes, I have the same trouble, hounds with alot of white and little of anyother. I put tan/white but the hounds has only a spot or two of tan on him and the label makes him sound like tan hound with a white collar. Not enough selections on the form to pick out the colour in primary order. This is alot of fun but oh so confusing...lol...
