A new Beagler here

Post by Junior »

well in a few months it will be time for me to find my first pup, and i was just wondering what some of you guys would reccomend? I'll be lookin for a med. speed-to upper med speed, line control is a must, and the hunt, well the dog must have it......would like to see the check worked inside to outside, not "wild as a buck" as i've seen big dog put it.lol...
Thanks.

If you want Medium to upper Medium, I would say Little Man dogs, or Weircreek. My Buddy in NC has them, they are a step slower than mine, but run a little truer, and hunt hard.

Mike Cron (Trackman) is out in New Jersey, and he is running upper med. line control dogs from the Bramlett line. He has a web site, I'll try to look it up and post the address.
Failure to prepare, is preparing to fail.

For better line control I would look to AKC SPO and or Progressive Pack. If line control is a must you will find those styles a lot closer to the line. From what you described i think you need to look at one of these style hounds with probably a medium speed. That is if line control is amust as you said.

Oh, I own Big Pack/Little Pack Style hounds and I just do not think you will find the type of line control you are talking about in those.

yea there is currently an LP style dog or two in the kennel, you can see one(male) in the best black and tans contest, Blacktop Tarmac. talk about a dog that likes the front, little man has allllllotttttt of foot. so far in Progressive Pack he has a third, a seventh, and an eight i believe. And to those that know who Squalling Coal Creek Katie is, Mike got her from Brian Joiner i believe, when he picked up Blackdirt Dozer. She just needs a first and she will be a progressive pack field champ, both are LP style dogs, or so im told...main reason the line control is a must is because we dont have LP style trials out in the garden state, only PP. but besides that Hunt First, trial second. only problem with that tho, s trials run all year hunting season is 3 1/2 months. lol.
