XDAWG,
HERE IN THE FOOTHILLS OF NC WE ARE INFESTED WITH COPPERHEADS, AND DEPENDS ON WHERE YOU GO A RATTLER OR TWO, AND THE EVER PRESENT COTTON MOUTH.
I CARRY BENADRYL EVERYWHERE, AND EVERYTIME. JUST AS SOON AS YOU CAN USE A SYRINGE, NO NEEDLE GIVE 3CC'S, AND I ALWAYS CARRY AMOXICILLIN 500 mg CAPS. I SHOVE 2 DOWN THEIR THROAT AS SOON AS POSSIBLE. THEN I'M GOING TO THE NEAREST PLACE TO GET ME A COUPLE OF DOSES OF PENECILLIN 2CC'S WITH THE NEEDLE. JUST AS CLOSE TO THE BITE SIGHT AS POSSIBLE. ONE THAT DAY, AND ONE THE NEXT.
BUY THE WAY, IF I CAN'T GET THE AMOX. DOWN THEIR THROAT, I DOUBLE UP ON THE BENADRYL, AND GO FROM THERE!!

these method are bogus. research shows that the only effective treatment of a venomous snakebite is an anti-venom, which is very costly. benadryl does nothing to to treat a venomous snakebite. it is only used to prevent an allergic reaction to the anti-venom if it is administered. penicillin will do nothing as it is an antibiotic. so really there is nothing that you can do after the dog has been bit except the anti-venom that is effective. however there is a vaccine for rattlesnakes made by red rock biologics. i am not sure on the price.

I use electricity. Works for me. Shock them right on the spot then take them to the vet for anti venom to be sure. Old man in central Kentucky told me of the electricity trick and I ain't lost one yet.
