MY NEW TRIAL VEHICLE - PROSPECT

Post by Jamie Rice »

Alright fellows, with the way gas continues to rise. $2.29 for cheap stuff here, before too long many of us won't be able to travel to trials and such. Therefore I've been on the lookout for a new ride... Well not a new ride, but instead a vehicle to travel to trials in. Low and behold if I didn't find one happening ride. Take a look right here... 4 Banger, 5 speed, Diesel... 50 to 60 miles a gallon. Woo hoo. Throw a little turbo charger on it for some extra power and I'll be jerkin black marks at the stoplights soon enough.

Image

But I'll admit it needs some work though. However just imagine,... A new coat of paint(camoflauge, black, blue, green, something manly), some 20's with spinners because you fellows knows all the ladies likes the dubs, some neon lights to go underneath. And last and certianly not least some hydraulics and some subwoovers in it as well. You know you gotta hit that three wheel motion and have them speakers blaring when you roll into the clubhouse. Now if you ain't laughing, then you ain't living. Don't worry though, because you won't be the only ones. When I brought up the idea to my hounds, their heads began to wobble before they ran to hide their faces in their dog houses. I wonder if they were ashamed or just amazed by how sweet they'll look cruisin in this new pimp mobile.

This thing is a MTV Pimp My Ride episode looking to happen. Holla!

I wish VW would bring back their little truck. I have an 02 VW Golf hatchback TDI(Turbo Diesel). Routinely gets 42-45 MPG around town and will hit the 50 MPG mark on the higway if I keep it at 75 MPH or under with the cruise set. I have a old F150 as a dog runner/ hunting season truck but all trips are in the golf. After riding in my golf all my gotta have a full size truck buddies are wishing for a little pickup with a diesel. VW still makes a little truck like that. It is sold in Mexico but can't get it here.

I have an f150 x-cab. 14 mpg. Period. That VW looks mighty good to me right now. but I couldn't get around the mountains here with 4" ground clearance. You are going to drop 'er down, aren't you? I suffocate every time I drop $50 for a tank of gas. No commies left to blame it on, either. Gotta blame it on the Muhammads! By the way, my hounds don't mind if it's made in USA or an import!

Gary glad to see you on board. Not sure what I'll end up with, just know I'm going to have to buy something cheaper on gas if I continue to trial the rest of this year. An uncle of mine has a VW rabbit and talks about how much gas mileage he gets, therefore that's reason I consider a VW. The post above for the most part was for $hit and giggles.

Wayne,
She's got plenty of sisters here and there. Two words, Ebay Motors.

Ramey,
I get around 18 to 20 miles a gallon in this Silverado, but when you compare that V8 to a 4 banger that gets 50 to 60... Well there's no comparison. Like you I could care less where it's made, just as long as it's not pink. Sorry I don't sell Mary Kay. Would be nice to get a vehicle that got 50 to 60 miles a gallon, dependable, and a 4x4, but that may be asking for too much. Right now I'd just settle for something that 3 to 4 guys could ride in and had room to throw a dog box or enough power to pull a trailer behind it.

I was looking across the net... Plenty of Mystery Machines for Scooby to ride in.

I once owned/drove a VW Rabbit Diesel. I put over 200,000 miles on it. I learned real quick to stay in the right lane on the interstate highways and never try to pass someone on a two lane road, unless it was downhill. Good luck and be safe because they are extremely underpowered.
I suspect if gasoline prices keep going up, auto companies will be reducing the number of SUVs produced and start producing more fuel efficient vehicles again.

Just think about us folks who own Motor Homes...... lot of dog show people own them as you know.
Mine gets 8-9 miles per gallon, cost over $125.00 to fill it up.... but we still love it
We will be attending fewer shows this year for sure.

Gus,

I believe that is exacty the reason for the high gas prices.... besides corp. greed. Enviromentalist want the gas prices to go up to get all these gas hogs off the road, and make way for the hybrid, more enviro friendly cars. It amazes me that we can have a congressional hearing on steroids in baseball, but screw all the little people that can barely afford to drive to work any more. Sorry, had to vent.

Four cylinders, whether it be VW or else, aren't necessarily known for V8-like power. Therefore I guess I begin to look at the pros and cons. PRO - Heck of a lot cheaper on gas by far. CON - Not a ton of power.

Win for PRO. Most of the time when I'm leaving for a trial, most folks are still snoring. Thus there's not much traffic on the roads. Nevertheless I figure I don't have to be the first to arrive and usually always give myself at least two hours grace period.

I doubt I'll end up with a VW Rabbit as they seem to be far and few between here in my neck of the woods. I guess as I noted there's always Ebay Motors. My biggest delimna seems to be the fact my Silverado will soon be paid off and I've had a 1964 Mustang calling my name for the last 15 years. I have no need for three vehicles and our driveway already looks like a parking lot of a used car dealership... Ha Ha.

Buckshot... And many of us thought we had it bad with the 14 to 18 mpg delimna. I feel for you my friend, I do...

Fuzz I downsized this year to, I bought an older S10 4 wheel drive. I thought it would be the perfect hunting truck with a V6 it should have pleanty of power yet easy on gas and with 4 WD I can get in and out of my spots. DANG thing only gets 16 MPH  I wonder if anyone makes a dog box that will fit on the back of a horse drawn buggie :D

Stan I know what you mean man. I used to drive V6 Tacoma... My V8 gets better gas mileage than the Toyota did. Everyone calls them rice burners, they need to start calling them gas burners... ha ha. When Toyota had the old 22R engines in them they got decent gas mileage... these days they are harder on such than many smaller V8 engines.
