Ivomec
What is the recommended dosage for Ivomec I was told one tenth of a cc per ten pounds of body weight. Would like to verify. Thanks Kurt

ivomec
1/10th of a cc per 10 lbs body weight but never more than 2/10ths of a cc no matter what beagles weight is. I inject it now so it doesn't irrtate dogs throat or nose. (Its the 1% Ivomec solution for cattle & swine). Drop me a line.

I give 1/10th of a cc per dog, period. I saw someone did the calculations a while back and I believe it came to 1/10 th cc per 15 lbs. My vet told me 12 years ago that Ivomec was the same stuff he used in his office. He also told me that there have been studies trying to determine the minumim dosage, but they failed. The control group shared their water trough with the group receiving Ivomec and neither group contracted heartworms. The dogs were administered Ivomec orally and then drank from the water trough that the control dogs shared. That dosage was diluted 1000 of times over. When a minimum dosage is determined then Ivomec will no longer be available without a prescription. By the way, I have 4 Brittnays (35-40 lbs each) that have been receiving Ivomec for 12 years with out heartworms. They have only been given 1/1oth of a cc per dog once a month, that's it!
I would estimate some of you folks are giving way too much of a dosage but I am not a vet. I give mine orally and have for alot of years with no problems. I doubt if it will ever be where you have to have a perscription to get it as there are way too many cattle and hog farmers who use it for that to happen.

Why don't they produce a dog womer from Ivermec? I am one beagler that has known and seen beagles killed with Ivermec, in the last 6 Mo. i have a friend who is a beagler that killed two young hounds, they just stopped eating and went down to nothing. His Vet told him that he couldn't do anything for them it distroyed there livers.
ive never seen one killed but i did see my buddy give to much orally to a dog onnce and she couldent bark for over a week, i know what your thinking. i didnt know how much he had given her at the time or i would have stopped him. my vet told me to mix it with a little milk when given orally, not nessasarilly needed but easier on the dogs.

I know of 2 different guys that go through their kennel every month and give each 25 pound Beagle 1 full cc of Ivomec. One guy gives it under the skin,(for several years), and the other guy gives it by mouth. I have not seen any problems out of either of their dogs. I have given 1 full cc of Ivomec brand Ivermectin, in the past, but now I usually give them 1/2 of a cc by mouth each month, as my vet recommended for a 25 lb Beagle. He also said that it would be hard to overdose a dog with Ivermectin, unless you were trying to, and that he had never heard of any liver problems that were a result of using Ivermectin, and didn't know why anyone would say that.
My vet also said to give it every month, at the same time of month, and if you wait much longer than a month, your dog could get heart worms, and the next dose could kill it.

I believe Heartguard that vet's give dogs is ivermectin.
I might be wrong, but I believe that is the active ingredient.
