Hey Randy,
I judged a Billy Boy male derby back in novenmber and man he is a nice dog. He actually won under me and the other guy. As far as U.B.G.F. trials up your way there is Prarie Creek. I'm thinking it is around Anderson. Clay County is at Sullivan, IN. Southwind is down at Booneville, IN.

Thats the only clubs in Indiana that I can think of that are U.B.G.F. clubs. Hopefully someone will jump in and help out.

I dont know if Gunsmoke Hitchiker is still around are not.

I guess what I'm getting at is that some people see a couple of dogs run that are from a certain bloodline, trial format or whatever and they base there opinions that every dog that falls under those guidelines are like that. And then run around and tell it for the gospel.

So what are some of yalls opinions on this?

If I understand, the question is why do folks do this? I think it may have something to do with human nature, I am sure all of us have seen this same type of thing when someone forms an opinion of an individual or group of folks based on one encounter. The same is happening with judging a particular bloodline of dog based on just one dog, in both cases there is no desire to do the research necessary to validate one's opinion. We all know that in a litter of pups there can be wide variation of color, size, running style etc. even when the parents are line bred, hopefully we are breeding to tighten up on exactly the traits that are desirable but still there will be variations.

So, in my opinion, it is not a good idea for us to judge a line of hounds based on just a few individuals. We might be missing out on something if we practice this sort of closed mindedness.

And, yes I speak from experience as I have been guilty of this very thing in the past.

Chad,I have been thinking along the same lines.In my education on bloodlines and formats I have found that there is a lot of unfounded bias on all sides.Also to add....it can come from good,smart,knowledgable houndsmen.I have stopped trying to figure it out but now have a very open mind when I hear a blanket statement on a studdog,bloodline,or organization.
