A general forum for the discussion of hunting with beagles, guns, clothing and other equipment and just talking dawgs! (Tall tales on hunting allowed, but remember, first liar doesn't stand a chance)
Ruger finally got his opportunity to win a big hunt. I never thought this dog would ever be able to compete or even run a rabbit ever again. It didn't take long after the first time I took him to run again to realize this dog wasn't backing down for nothing. His first trial back after his leg amputation, he placed 2nd at the VA State UKC Hunt scoring a whopping 1250+ winning his first cast back. He lost his next cast by 5 points because of a check. I started pushing him in local hunts and he became the 2015 North Mountain Beagle Club Hound of the Year. At this years Eliminator there was 121 dogs in the hunt and he wanted to be just like his sister! His half sister (CK's Hare Raisin Whiskey) won the eliminator in 2014 in a ft of snow. Ruger has been a pleasure to own and this whole weekend has just made everything worth while. Ruger really opened some eyes this weekend with his speed even on three legs, he owned the front all weekend in every cast. Ruger has taught me a life lesson, you may have set backs in your life that may really bring you down but keep your head up and push yourself and you can be as great or greater than you can ever dream of. Ruger is not done with just this hunt, he wants to go further. Thank you Chris and Laura Wells for selling me this dog as a puppy! He has been a great rabbit hunting partner and best friend.
