Best bloodlines for jumpers??

Hard to find a consistent bloodline to throw true jump dogs cause of all the outcrosses.
Try to find a stud with extreme hunt and breed that way. Don't just rely on the bloodline.
That being said.
The hardest hunt I've even seen in a dog was out of Talk about blue Jasper!! Dog is built like a hammer.

I agree with that,, Weir Creeks jump rabbits, and that is Why I started off my Bloodline with them, many years ago. Old Cotton Country Scout was about the best male I ever seen at jumping a rabbit in the middle of a Hot Aug. day Down South..

Freestyle, you can put a little "Pep in their Step" if you very selective about the Sir, I found that out a long time ago, when I did an out cross with a Chocolate Tick, male I had shipped here, from Indiana.. Never had heard about a Lilly Creek? Fellow and his wife owned, this large Kennel, call it the Beagle Ranch,, I seen a litter of male pups, that he was showing for sale. Called the owned and he said there was a small little male that would make my Team,, and he would be my Quarterback come, Opening Season?

Yes,, the man was right, that little fellow was Something Else! I was very pleased with the pup, he was an AKC Lilly Creek pup, never had I ever seen or heard about that blood line, He was Jump dog, had good foot, and love the Water, as I run lots of the Big Swampers here in Ga. I name the pup. D.R's Phillie, after the man that sold him to me. You seldom see one that will take to a Big Beaver Pond and, swim across, with his head up in the air scenting, where that ol rabbit had taken to the water to throw the pack of hounds that had been pursuing, him for awhile.

Sorry for the history of my little red tick male,, he was an outstanding Jump dog and Water hound. When he passed away, I was lucky enough to have a Good Friend,, Miss Sally from the Oakhills, Kennels up in Ky. to go out to the same Kennels and get me another, Lilly Creek this time I got a Chocolate Tick female . Speaking of Sally she gave a Blue tick male years ago,, I name him "Jeb" now there was a hound that could also jump you a rabbit. I breed him to many of my Red females,, Guess What? He never threw anything but Blue Ticks and Black and White pups,, very strong breeding , was her Oakhill blue ticks.. Excellent Gun Dogs,, I might say!

I'm surprised to see no one has mentioned Northway hounds as being good jump dawgs. I'm just a hard core gun hunter and all I want and need is a meat and potatoes kinda hound. They seem to suit me for finding bunnies and providing me with plenty of table fair.

Weir Creeks,not the fastest or the most flashy hounds out there.But get a few good ones and you can kill every rabbit or hare they get after.They don't need any help getting after them either.

If I were dependent on rabbits for my meat and they were scarce, I would go with a Fiest, Spaniel, or Rat Terrier crossed with a Beagle. Make a good 'ol hunting Cur dog.

No full bloodied anything but all full blooded different LINE crosses which was very popular for many years in various game finding and chasing dogs as well as breeding dogs for other things we like to eat, Quail and Pheasant also as big game dogs like Hog and Bear dogs.

Its called Hybrid Vigor and it can't be beat. Do these breed true and better breeding to others of the same crosses? No!
Usually it is a one time breed cross and must be repeated same as before to maintain the same level of Hybrid Vigor. In other words, the second generation does not do as well as the original cross did. Each generation gets even less talented.

That is why it is not popular with big time breeders since you can breed as good as they can as there is no LINE to follow or seek.

I keep a frame of mind that there is only one rabbit left in all my hunting spots. This makes me need dogs to hunt for that one rabbit and jump him and account for him until he's holed or harvested to keep me from starving to death! lol! I try to keep, breed and hunt dogs that persue it's game with that same mentality and no regards for his body to find that one rabbit that's left. With that type of mindset, I tend to be ruff on keeping dogs if they don't hunt like so. The line I've found that keeps me from knocking so many in the head for lack of hunt and jump Is the Northway hounds. But this is just me. My guess is if you are serious enough, put on some miles and go see as many hounds go as you can stand to see or come across some that click for you and you find yourself saying to yourself, that's it, that's the exact kind of dog/s I'm looking for. So my answer to your question is Mt Zion Pete dogs through Paul Kormorny's line bred Northway Spur bred dogs.

Always a great topic. And always different answers, which they should be. Everybody has different opinions or view in which they like. I had branko/Northway dogs back in the 1990s they where true meat hounds , they ran every time like their dinner depends on that rabbit. True grit. However I could not take the swinging of 50 ft or more on a check and had tough time breaking from trash. This was my personal experience not all branko or Northway do this. Some are great dogs.

I then ran with a guy who had 2 daddy rabbit weircreek dogs. I was in awe how much grit hunt they had , med to med plus speed and almost no break downs. Basically they ran the rabbit until we shot it.
Going forward I'll be going weircreek way.
