Never been to a world hunt, but going one of these days just to fellowship, nothing like meeting people that likes the same thing you do. Fellowship, beagles and rabbits.

I didn't realize little pack dogs run that fast. Must have some big running rabbits.
Can that style dog run a rabbit in a tight thicket when the rabbit is making quick circles and backtracks and zigzags????
No

I bet most can.
The Little Pack was actually set up for the rabbit hunter. Something for them to compete in with their hounds. Just like anything else, evolution has its effect on anything and everything. Meat hounds competing with competition hounds, hare hounds being bred to cottontail hounds, line control hounds being bred to windsplitters, loose mouth dogs being bred to swinging hounds, etc.this is what it's evolved into. Trying to fit the hound to the format. Nothing at all wrong with that long as we don't forget to always try to better the beagle as a whole.

I really enjoy LP. I have ran few other formats but LP format is my favorite. When competing you never know what could go on in that hour. No rabbits, splits, to many rabbits, weather, run in morning with heavy dew or frost, or mid day when dry and windy. It puts it in same perspective as if out hunting with your buddy and there dogs.

Other thing I enjoy bout LP is seeing the many diff style of hounds. I've seen hounds that could flat move a rabbit if he was a big running rabbit, but if he was tight running rabbit the same dog would have lil more trouble with it. I've seen lot good dogs that were awesome on tight/twisty rabbits but have lil trouble I big runners. Many many many factors are in this sport. You could have a bawl mouth hound that has whipped butt all day, next cast get drawed out with a hound that has a running chop and likes to skirt and cast site is full of rabbits. Chances are bawl mouth going get spanked. Nothing wrong with either hounds but that kinda where the rules beat ya instead of dog. But not much diff in your hunting buddy inviting another friend to go hunting and he brings his dog, that makes you and your buddy's dogs look silly. So in a way it still kinda based on the rabbit hunter but has added a edge to the hounds that are ran.

If you enjoy hounds and meeting fellow hounds man I encourage ya find a local LP club and go watch or run. You'll get to witness all kinds of diff hound running styles. I would advise that if you do run in a hunt that you have somewhat some aggressive hounds cause most these hounds won't stop and wait for one another. It's a jump, run, pound, pound, pound for a hour run.

This post by BB Beagles reminds me of a trial held years ago when LP was just starting. Later too, but I'll keep quiet!!!

The owner of many dogs would considering the conditions and dogs he knew he would be running against in a cast would pull out the dog that fit the situation.

Very few judges knew which dog was which and only went out on cast they were assigned to.

Funny thing was when he won a hunt, it was hard to decide which dog to bring to the winners circle for pictures!!! LMAO, LOL

That could still happen if a guy wants to win so bad he'll cheat. What has he won??? I'll take my minuses, my places, my loses, and if I'm fortunate my wins, but I want the dog to get what he earned, either good or bad.

Alabama John that fellar you speak of have to be pretty ballzee to pull stunt like that. At most of the LP reg hunts we attend there are usually around 30-50 hounds. That all 3 classes. So I say it be pretty hard to try slip that one on. And it sad to say but no telling what people has tried in past. It's pretty simple, just cut them loose and let the best dog of that hour come back winner. Papaw told me when I was little, learn to be good winner, but also ya gotta learn to be a good loser.

Anyways about the main topic, the world hunt was great. Erie canal did a great great job as usual. Had fun talking to friends and seeing ones ya ain't seen in a year. For most part had plenty of rabbits. Only heard bout couple cast that had few to none but hey, that's hunting ain't it? No doubt everybody is there to win but the lil things mean a lot as well.
That's what beagling suppose to be about.

If somebody knows, can they post the placements on here, I know a few who did but like to see them all

BB, back then hundreds attended a trial. Some tie out chains had 25-50 dogs clipped to them.

Glad everyone had a good time as you can't get with a better bunch than a group of Beaglers. Sitting around, they sure can tell some wild, dog stories!

Just reliving the amusement of the old days with my story. Times have changed.

My hat is always tipped to the judges as no better ones than we have.

The beagle club (Magic City) I helped get started in the mid 50's recently closed and their running ground is sitting there as well as the club house. Sad!!!
