A general forum for the discussion of hunting with beagles, guns, clothing and other equipment and just talking dawgs! (Tall tales on hunting allowed, but remember, first liar doesn't stand a chance)
I RUN TWO, I HUNT TWO, BECAUSE I ONLY HUNT & I ONLY HAVE TWO.
I GO OUT & HAVE NO TROUBLE GETTING THEM TO MIND BECAUSE I CAN GIVE THEM THE ATTENTION THEY DESERVE. I DON'T USE A COLLAR
BECAUSE THEY WON'T RUN TRASH. THE ONLY PROBLEM I HAVE IS IF I DECIDE TO LEAVE & THEY HAVEN'T GOT THEIR RUN OUT I DO HAVE ONE THAT WILL TRY TO HIDE FROM ME, THIS AMUSES ME & I DON'T CONSIDER IT A PROBLEM BECAUSE SHE WILL COME IN IF I RAISE MY VOICE. I REALLY ENJOY THEM VERY MUCH.

Prefer to run 3 dogs -- run better than a big pack (IMO).
All with e-collars.
I've found that if you have 2 or 3 dogs and you run them all the time together they do better. I've run those big packs, but I like smaller numbers . I also find dogs that run together often do better than with strange dogs -- or so it seems with my hounds. A team of 3 dogs that run often together can't be beat.

My whole life I've only ever run with one solo dog. Just never seemed to be able to get a second good dog. The first was hard enough. Had my share of trash runners and such. Well my sons (25 & 27) have decided to get back into beagles this fall, so we'll be looking for TWO dogs! I can't even think what it would sound like with 5-8 dogs let alone 22!! Well some of the guys on this forum that live in my area have offered to let me tag along this winter to see what it's about. I'm also planning on going to a dog trial in Feb..which will be my first ever. I'm almost afraid that with my two boys and two dogs, it might grow into 3 or 4 without much trouble after next fall! It's always my luck though, whenever I get into something I'm always a day late and a dollar short. You watch this is going to be the year everyone and their brother is going to want to take up hunting with beagles, and I won't be able to find a couple good started beagles next fall to save my life!! LOL
I run my 3 dogs and usually run with buddys and we usually run a total of 5-6 dogs at a time. I feel you put to many down, the rear dogs smell nothing but the front dogs rear and do what I call "me too" barking. Now doing this every once in a great while would probably make a dog really fight for the front really hard. I always run with collars, security blanket. Its there if ya need it, if not, then thats great too.

i have a question for you guys that run big groups ..I have always seen that when running in a big group you have 2 or 3 good hounds and a bunch of hounds that there view will never change in there life time ... a bunch of me too hounds ..don't you run in to this also ?
