I don't bother checking IPs. When people register with easy names like So-n-so Kennel, or Ridview Beagles, then I know it's legit. But if they try using partial names or initials with birthdate combos like TRZ1978 then it looks like a spammer. That's why it's good to keep names simple and not some "code" or abbreviation.

Thank you Bev for the work you do so we can enjoy this board. I'm NOT a computer wiz and in fact just above needing the book, computers for dummies so I really can appreciate the work one does to have such a site for others. These junk posts never stopped me and although not too bright I could tell MOST of the junk ones and merely bypassed them and on to the good stuff!

I don't know why you aren't in charge of the world.

In any event, I've changed the spambot countermeasures to a question/answer requirement for registration, so I expect that will stop the breach for now. Thank you all for your patience and understanding. Well, most of you, anyway.
I've ran web sites and message boards before. I've got experience with it lol

How do you ban the IP of a computer that is set up for DHCP on a network and gets a new IP every time it is rebooted? Which I am sure spam bots would be.

It's more difficult in that sense. Why I also suggest a registration number generator type deal. You can't even sign up for an e-mail address without of some sort of random generator for numbers or letters. I wasn't trying to be a smart butt. Just trying to be helpful. I was also as frustrated as anyone else visiting the forums.

I too was not trying to be smart I was seriously curious if it was possible as most of the time I am running on a machine that is running DHCP.

Not to appear unsympathetic, but you cannot possibly be more frustrated than me. But for the record, calling my board and my efforts "ridiculous" is not helpful.

Hopefully the hiccups will be few, and we can keep on Talkin' Dawgs.
