Ideal Breeding Age

Post by rabbitatfarm »

A friend read that one of the big-name-bird dog breeders always used young dogs. I'm wondering if it's better to wait and see how the dog turns out. My femalse are both two years plus. I'm thinking, if I breed them, maybe this winter if they come in heat. I like a spring litter. Any thoughts?

That's the age that I like to BREED a Hound 2 + years for my females and I like Fall or Around Jan. to BRED one Because it's easier for me to HEAT a Kennel up ( heating Pad and or use a light bulb then it is for me to keep a Kennel cool in the Heat of summer. jmo

Anything less than 2 years is a baby trying to take care of babies when you breed that young. If your females haven't "turned out" good by 2 yrs. plus, it's doubtful that they will "turn out" at all; I would hesitate at breeding them. JMHO.
