California Chrome

Post by tdog »

I hope this horse wins the triple crown today.. Everyone that breeds animals is always hoping for a once in a lifetime animal like him.. I would say if I am ever lucky enough to make an FC or IFC that may be my California Chrome

So I have to ask who has been lucky enough to raise a California Chrome type hound?

Man I am confident many would not pee and moan like Chrome's owner did......his horse just did not have enough, that is why it is tough to win the triple crown....they aren't giving it away.....

I agree that he shouldn't have showed his butt on TV, though I agree with him on what he said though.

I don't agree with him....why only a select few horses have won it.....takes the really special one....he did not have that....a good horse, but not Triple crown good.

You will see him as a flash in the pan in horse racing.....you got beat, move on.....

the one thing i would agree on is if you ran in the belmont, they should have to run in the kentucky derby and the preakness as well. the horse that won the belmont was probably not a fast horse on smaller tracks and great on longer ones. could be the reason why there's no winners in 36 years.
let honesty run through the veins of each and every judge at each and every trial at each and
every format.

My opinion, the horse that won the Belmont is not a "great horse" either, good horse yes, great no....
Chrome would have lost to Ride on Curlin in Preakness had it been 100 yards further.......again my opinions that it takes the "great" horse, but it makes for a true title if they win all three.

I cannot see them changing the requirements....but that is my opinion.

It was fun to watch...it wasn't like he did not show up....he challenged then faded....great suspense.

You win the first two and then got beat by a fresh horse who didn't run in the first two. Was that the way it was done in the days of secretariat?? Was there fresh horses dumped on secretariat when he won the Belmont in 1978??? Your right it does take a special horse to win it all...

It aint like they ran 3 races in 3 hrs. Fresh horse or not that extra distance tells the tale.......Thats why it aint been done in a minute......................

Just like these guys that keep winning trials in any format.....you have to know your animal, what it can take, where it is at it's best......

Tough is tough is tough.....there have been a select few....there is a reason for that.

If I understand what Chrome's owner said is he wants only to race the horses he beat in the first race for the next two! Well would that not be nice in field trails! I win my first then bring back the losers until I finish my dog? The guy is a flippin cry baby that when he does not get his way he feels compelled to mouth off. When he was at the Belmont he was mouthing that Churchill Downs needed to take notes on how to treat an owner and after the Preakness he makes a statement that the only race he would run again would be the KY Derby. Well his big mouth may have cancelled his invitation for the next derby!! All I can tell him is to "horse up" and quit being a cry baby liberal that if he cant win with the rules in place then cry until they change them to suit his purposes. Okay im better now

Affirmed won it in 1978, Secretariat in 73, but yes fresh horses have been allowed to come and go since this prestigious award was created. Theses are three separate events, with only the derby being the one you have to "qualify" for, and what many people don't know is Tonalist was a very talked about horse last fall and year this year as a Derby contender but when he got a lung infection he was unable to run the required races prior to the Derby in order to potentially qualify.

Chrome's owner is a sore looser, like many said his horse is a good, but only great horses win triple crowns!

It is hardly tradition that horses run all three legs: Secretariat’s Belmont had just three horses that had run in all three Triple Crown races; Seattle Slew’s also had three, and Affirmed and Alydar were the only two horses to run the Derby, Preakness and Belmont.
But, the fields were smaller. About 5 head.8 in Secretariat's Belmont.
