If you run into deer hunters it will usually be a major conflict, they do not like to be barged in on by rabbit hunters and especially dogs, anyway that is the way it is here, just my thoughts :D ...Darren Melton :D

I think it helps our sport to allow the deer hunters a couple of weeks without dogs in the woods. Maybe even the first couple weeks of bow season. but after that, it is my land and I will do as I please. No one else is supposed to be here.

I go there quite a bit, and own land there. It is a good idea to lay off during the deer season. No law against it, just common sense. There is a LOT of public land in Maine, but it is a common courtesy to let the deer hunters have the woods for a few weeks. Lots of time to run rabbits before and after the season.

We hunted there the second week of there deer season, we ran into no issues, we were "guided" by some locals so we avoided barging in on others, all went very well.

We are going first week of Nov. this year...I don't want to cause issues, but there is just sooo much land up there....endless. and we saw very few deer hunters.

If we saw a truck, we moved on to the next option...

I live in southern maine and do not run my dogs during deer season we run them on sunday during deer season their is no hunting on sundays but you can run and train dogs . if I was up north I might run during deer season . very few deer up north and lots of land to hunt on . but in the southern and centeral part of maine their are plenty of deer and deer hunters and I would not like to go to jail if someone shot my dog. most guys up here just let the dfeer hunters have the woods for the mounth of November.our hare season goes from October 1st to march 31st so its a nice long season and we can train july 1st to October 1st.= nine mounths of running the dogs.

I go way up north in Arroostock County in October before the deer season opens. As someone else mentioned there are few deer up there and we seldom even see one.We always avoid the moose season though as there are a lot of road hunters looking for a moose and riding the back country roads.
The places we hare hunt are so thick that I don't think the deer hunters would opt to hunt where we run anyways. And as someone else mentioned in northern Maine there is just so much area that it wouldn't be hard to stay away from others if you needed to.

Last season I hunted near Baxter park. I would call that northern Maine. I saw very little deer sign also.
