FINALLY! Garmin sent me a new unit!!!!

Battery and all, I am keeping the new battery I just bought. The more I thought about my issues the more it made sense it could be a defective battery. Others with multiple units were not having the issues I was. I WAS keeping the battery on EACH unit I sent back until now.

I will let you all know if this resolves the issue, I truly hope it does!!!!

Hey guys.
I know I gonna jinx myself.
But I using with 5 dog system and also the birds eye and my buddy has same without birdseye.
Both no issues.
Maybe a flaw in manufacturing depending on dates was put together
Or during a specific time period.

I wonder if the recent units sold have any issues or only first run??

Anthony.

Okay, my report.

It did shut down at 1.5 hours. I immediately shook my head in disbelief. However, I jumped on the phone with a garmin distributor and found a couple conflicting settings in my system.
I had no issues the rest of the day. My conflict was I had "Tones" marked at ON and "Alerts" marked as OFF, the tones are for the alerts, I also noticed that my screen was not shutting down at the TWO minute time out I had selected. I switched that to ONE minute and it was fine.

We will see what the next day brings, this is still an INVALUABLE system with it's minor issues.

My alpha has been shutting down about every other trip out. It is usually if I delete the tracks or waypoints. It will turn back on and work just fine. I have called them twice talking to two different people. They keep saying they have never heard that. No one else has called in with problems of it shutting off. They said they will replace with refurbished if software version 3.2 doesn't fix it.

Call me Dan if you have questions, I have had MULTIPLE issues. I demanded a new one this time they sent it, no more refurbs.

I can tell you what I found in the system that may have been an issue. Take care!

Glad you brought this up John. My system has not locked up in 4-6 trips out.

What I have done differently is let the screen time out at 30 seconds as oppossed to locking the screen manually. I have been running multiple dogs, letting it stay on well past my hunt times. I may have been inducing some of the issues??? BUT I do know this, IT IS NOT A PIECE OF JUNK....the best tool I have EVER seen for hounds.

Even with the very minor issues it is GREAT, really don't know how we functioned without it...but I will just enjoy having it.

Who did you end up getting dogs from John? I have been using the garmin systems since they were introduced and I will never be without one. I use my Alpha as much as anyone and have had VERY few problems. As many roads as coyote hounds cross you can't go wrong owning one.

I am headed to Iowa tomorrow to pick up 2 or 3 coyote hounds from Mike "Majdog" I already have 1 but just sold my astro 220 system and wanted to get the scoup on the alpha as it has more range which is what I need before I buy it and I remembered seeing this thread on here before I sold my beagles so figured I would give it a read through.
