SW Michigan snow???

Post by 48180 Hunter »

I have a 2 day hunt lined up for next Thursday&Friday in berrien county. Was wondering how much snow is left down that way? Thanks.

I'm in Allegan County and we still have between a foot and 18". We have had some melting today so it may be less. Biggest problem is, depending on the temp, some will hold you and the next step you break through to your knee--at least mine. South facing slope have less and may even have bare ground. Pine plantations may have a lot of snow left. Good luck. If you need more information let me know what town you are hunting near and maybe I can find out more.

For sure littlewoody, always got some rope & fence cutters. Had 1 of my dogs hang his foot in a knocked down fence 1 time was tough getting it out. Always carry those 2 things now.

Several years ago I lost a nice young hound to thin ice after a warm spell. The rabbit had took him deep and then crossed a cattail swamp. I only way I found him was with the tracking collar. The antenna was only sticking up about 2 inches above the ice and water. It was just an unfortunate accident but it has made me more cautious this time of year.

We hunted this morning. It was tough on us and even the dogs had trouble. They broke through just often enough to make running difficult. Places with drifts are still thigh deep. Bring snowshoes if you have them. We got one rabbit.

Thanks big Rufus. Talked too a couple buddy's that live down there yesterday 1 said there's no snow behind his house where we hunt the other said the most he could find was 6in but for the most part bare ground. We had decent running here in SE MI yesterday, have u been getting any good runs lately?
