Running dogs everyday?

Post by rabbitearl »

I had the pleasure to meet this guy around 15 years ago.I ve never seen anybody like him over beagles and running dogs.He is 64 and love it.He has ran beagles all his life and say he remember sleeping on the tail gate when he was young and watching the sun rise. Just yesterday he ran till 3 00 pm went home and eat and then back out running again. He the best I ve seen down here when its comes to putting a TCP of dog together and most of the time he wins, just last week,(Shows what kind of heart he has) 31 pack he had two dogs in first place so the other older man could say he won,and then last week 22 pack at another club he got 1 st and 2 nd. he runs all the time if he not sick and some time he run then.Never hear of anybody that run everyday.Do yall know someone that run everyday?

I know a man that runs at least 350 days a year and maybe more. He seldom misses a day. Most of you have heard of him. Buck Allen , a.k.a. Bucks Better Beagles.

I usually run some about everyday. Through the week I will run 2 or 3 about every night in my rabbit pen and usually run my whole pack on the weekends sometimes Friday, Saturday and Sunday on the outside. We ran about 5 hours Sunday afternoon on the outside about as hard as I have ever heard dogs run. With that being said if it were not for me having a pen I would not have time to run them that much.

Just so everyone will know I do start puppies and condition dogs for other folks in the pen. I have a 14 acre enclosure mostly 5 year old cutover stocked with wild cottontails. I charge $35.00 per dog for a week and I treat them as if they belonged to me. I had a guy bring me 5 yesterday from Chesapeake Va. The weeks I have other peoples dogs here mine get some rest so I can give the customer what he paid for. I will provide plenty of references if needed.

I know several that live off government that run every day. Even condition dogs for people. Not sure I can respect a working age man that don't work. I know I'm off topic but I will mention this randomly for others to hear. The non-workers in this country are growing fast.

Sad thing is I can't get them to join the Army because the government pays more to free loaders than the starting pay for the army.

Mybeagles I know exactly how you feel. I work full time with the Sheriff's Office here in my County as a Detective and have been with them 12 years. I also help my Father In Law on his farm on my days off just to make ends meet. Running these dogs is my hobby and I do it because I love it and it is also a good stress relief for me. As I said in my earlier post if it were not for my pen I could not run dogs except on weekends. As for people living off the Government, after serving 12 years on the Sheriff's Office I have seen first hand the numbers of people that think the Government owes them a basic living. They think they are owed free housing, free food, free phone and a nice check for spending money to go along with it. I feel the need after typing this for a little stress relief, maybe it's time to go load up !!!!!

Thanks for the reply yall. I understand what yall are talking about free gov income. you need to try farming and try to get some to work. This guy has work all his life and got a wife and grown ups too. he told me when working he could not wait to get home and run dogs. Must be a good wife. he was running today all day and when I left at dark he was still running. Taking one dog out putting another one in taking another one out just to see how much better or worst they run with different dogs. He buys and sell a lot of dogs and breeds a lot of dogs. I remember one time I was having a trial and a guy buys his pack of dogs in the trial so this man went to dog box after dog box, dogs he used to have and place 3nd that day in the trial and the guy that buys his pack never place. He know how to get the dogs pump up when they first get on a rabbit. Hey he is a outstanding guy too.Do anything in the world for you. Talk about his wife.she been down here and clean up the club house and he in the woods running dogs. I just never seen nobody like him or his wife. Thank yall I though I would share this with yall. Its just hard to believe.EVERYDAY

rabbitearl, when my kids get grown and can take care of themselves and I get to retire, unless something changes, i think I could run a few hours every day and not get tired of it. I dont know if I could stay as long as this old guy you got there, usually 3 or 4 hours at a time is plenty for me but I sure would like to try running every day. One thing for sure, if you put that kinda runnin time on a pack of dogs, you will find out all there is to know about your dogs. There is an older guy that I hunt with a couple of times a year. I always make sure to only go rabbit hunting with him on a certain day when I dont have nothin I gotta do that evening. He is the only man I ever saw that will rabbit hunt from daylight to dark. Especially if you have a chance to hunt a place that we dont have access to on a regular basis, this old guy keeps saying, let's run one more. He will go catch his hounds with a leash and a flashlight. I never saw anybody that like to rabbit hunt that long and hard, he dont just stand around, moves constantly. He is in his early 70's and he aint slowed down a step yet.
