I have read some great stuff on this thread...
Alabama John; Two things we can know about a dog that consistently comes to a 90 degree turn and doesn't overrun. One, it is accurate and has a good nose and two, it is SLOOOOOW!
I like fast dogs so around here, Little Pack is preferred, and some PP pack dogs.
FUZZ; It's hard for me to believe that every single hound in that pack is running scent, because if so that hound would be turning with the scent. If you've got a hound turning it from behind on the front running hounds, then that front runner is disrupting the run more than he's contributing. Very, very few dogs are going to turn it on a dime, but he/she should have the brains to slow down and shut it's mouth when it's ran out of scent. And it darn well shouldn't be swinging to the next ridge to claim the check, much less skirting brush or the line to obtain the front.
I think fast dogs can make a 90 without losing hardly any time. If a pack of dogs are running a rabbit and using their mouth as they should, each dog will only bark when it has scent. That being said the front dog should be giving more mouth, the secound dog a little less all the way to the last dog that don't have nearly as much scent.. I think a good lead dog should be taking a chance (winding and going) but if it runs out of scent it slames on brakes and shuts up, if the secound dog ain't real sharp it will have its nose in a stinking place, by now the dogs behind should be slowing down because there is something wrong up ahead.
One of the dogs should make the turn and the dogs that went over should fall in and wait untill the next wreck before regaining the lead. (MO)

Sounds good to me. I'll be a day late for the World Hunt because of my school schedule but I'll be there -- I'm drivin out late Thursday -- make sure you look for me first thing on Friday (g) I can't wait to get to a hunt -- haven't been to one for soooooo long, I'm going thru withdrawl (School just keeps me soooo busy I don't have time to turn around). Have you been to any trials lately?? Paul is planning on goin to the OK state hunt, he hasn't been to any trials for a while either. Later
