Expose the guy.
Re: How would you handle this?
I guess I tend to trust people to much. Like some of you have said, there are still good people who are people of their word. 99% of the people I have met running and trialing are good people. I've trialed from northern MI to Southern KY and my dogs have been all over the country Most people are good honest people looking for fellowship and good times. I believe in helping and I was brought up to believe, if a man doesn't have his word, He has nothing. It just gets frustrating when crap like this happens. It makes the rest of us gun shy and callused.
This guy did offer to wire me $ to hold the dog and I declined.
Dumb move on my part!!
I was hoping he would read this post and man up to me, at least in private, but that hasn't happened.
Another caveat to the story is he claims to be a Christian, with John 3:16 on his website.
Ill think about it some more, and may decide to post his Name phone number and website.
Thanks for the support!!!

Why I always do first come first serve. I've held a dog for a guy before, and him back out. The next week he wanted it again. Someone showed up before him. Needless to say he wasn't happy with me though I held onto the beagle for a week once and him not a buy it. Not sure what made him think I'd hold onto the dog for another week lol

Buckeye runs all over, we use them. There is no reason he could not have used them. If I see a dog I want Ill figure out a way to get it to me.

Man, I hate getting pulled into one of these but I can't help myself. In your post you say the guy said he was coming to check the dog out would you have felt the same way if he would have made the trip and not wanted the dog? You left Friday evening for a 7 hour drive to met someone on Sunday for a $300 dog and gas is almost $4.00 a gallon? I have had a couple of guys stand me up saying they were 100% going to buy the dog but I can't imagine driving over 7 hours to show a $300 dog. Not taking sides but there is always 2 sides to every story.

A lot of guys need to be a produce farmer for a couple of years. Come and pick it up here and its half price. But when you leave with it its yours. I agree with msohio. Theres noway I would drive that far to try and sell a dog at 300 and maybe the guy back out when he see the dog.

You sound like genuine guy and I have the respect for you. This man should have waited and seen your dog first since he had the obligation toward your dog first. Driving seven hours is no easy task. Heck I hate driving 30 minutes let alone 7 hours. I feel the man cheated you, not only out of a dog and gas money but out of respect and dignity. Hate to judge a man, no body is perfect, but what he did is wrong.

Re: How would you handle this?
Learned from the lesson. forgive and forget the. Even if the guy gets to see your dog, he might not have the cash in hand. This is what I would have done and please don't be offended by my opinion. You guys saw the female halo in indiana hunt. My brother couldn't care for her and asked me to keep or sell halo for me. Halo is a good dog but not my style. I listed halo for 300 and didn't get anybody intrest for a month. I listed her for free and she is gone the next week. If you need to move a dog that bad, listed the dog for free to good hunters home. I have gave away many good hunting dog that did not suit me.

This is a funny post!
I was home tonight working on work stuff on my laptop and got a call from a friend and said he thought people were talking about me on line. We talked about this post for several minutes and advised me not to respond. But I guess my character and man who I am won't let me not respond to all this garage that Whitey 51 has put on this board. My name is Mike Shepherd and yes I am a Christian and yes I have a website and I have put bible verses on my website. When I say I'm a Christian that means I'm a sinner and I need the Lord Jesus Christ as my savior and as a man or woman that god created on earth, none are perfect in all they do. I'm not admiting wrong doing with Whitey 51 at all. But God will be my judge not anyone on this board or anywhere else on this earth. So that being said I will respond to some of his statements and not respond to this post anymore after that and if you think he was right or me, I really don't care as I felt since he put on here about my Christianity is the only reason I felt I will respond.
1. I contact Whitey 51 about his male dog on line for sale as I have contacted many people on this board or anywhere that has a dog with a pedigree I liked. We talked several times through text messages and pms. He described the dog to me and I thought this mite be the male I was looking for. I offered to send deposit and was going to buy him off chain and not see him run. I told him it would be sometime late Feb until I could get up there to pick him, did he want money to hold him. He respond no. Whitey also hadn't even sent in the litter registration for the dog that he breed that was way over a year to get him registered. I said I wanted the papers. I said let me know when you get papers, should be plenty of time.
2. Whitey contacted me and said he would be making a trip down to southern indiana in the next couple weeks, did he want me to bring the dog and see him run. I said that would be awesome, I would feel better about buying him with seeing him run. He stated he wanted to keep his kennel name on the dog as he know I wanted to run him ARHA. I said if you bring him down and I buy him I will keep your kennel name if I come up there and buy him off chain I want 50.00 off to keep your kennel name. Its your call. He said he would get back with me.
3. Couple days later he said he was coming down that weekend and wanted to know if I could meet him. I said yes. He said I have a guy from NY thats friend's is coming to MI that mite be interested in him but he didn't know when the guy was returning to NY so he didn't know if that deal would work. Whitey said he told the guy that he was bring the dog down to Indiana for a guy to watch run that he had first shot and if I didn't buy him than he could have his friend pick him up. Whitey said he just wanted to make sure I was still interested and didn't want to get stood up. I said I wouldn't stand u up. I'm a man of my word, if for some reason I wasn't going to make it you will be the first to know.(That is the only time I said I'm a man of my word when I said if I wasn't going to be there, he would be the first to know) I have been around dogs my entire life and try to choose my words carefully when dealing dogs so I don't say something I can't produce.
4. I asked Whitey about the papers Friday since he was coming down a weeks early than planned. He stated he had sent them into AKC. I asked did you do them on line or snail mail. He said on line. I wanted proof cause now I'm giving him 300 cash and he don't have papers in hand and I have to trust him that he will give them to me. I asked for the email copy that AKC send you. He sent it to me. I looked it over and it had the dog born in October 2013. The dog he was bringing me was over a year old. He had other pups listed on line he said he just sold and he must have made a mistake. I said that could be costly cause AKC is hard to deal with when mistakes are made. He texted me back and said AKC fixed it with no problem and papers would be to him weeks. I don't remember exactly the time frame. I believe he said 3 to 5 weeks. Didn't sound right to me but at that point I was still consider going to see the dog and was to late for him to leave the dog at home. He was in route to spend the weekend with the girlfriend. He stated he couldn't run Saturday if the girlfriend was off of work and would get back with me if Sunday was still the best day. He text me later and said Sunday would work after Church and he invited the girlfriend to go. I said ok.
5. I text Whitey on Saturday when I got home to let him know I wasn't coming. I first started to tell him about the hunt. But as I text it decide it was a cold day, snowy, windy and probably wouldn't be the best day to try a dog and I decide i didn't want to see him run. so I kept my word and something changed and I let him know and he wasn't stood up.
Whitey made a couple mistakes here, 1. he didn't register a dog he breed for well over a year and then put the wrong date down on the akc litter registration bringing question if something funny was going on. not accusing him but as many know when buying a dog on line if it smells like fish, its usually fish. He should have had the papers straight before listing him but sounded like he was trying to sell him for 300 without registering him. 2. he counted that I was going to buy a dog when I was going to just try it and he really was coming down to see his girlfriend. When he passed on the deposit and offered to run him for me and bring him. There was no guarantee that a sale was 100percent 3. then counted on some guy to wait for this trip to buy the dog if I didn't want it. plus the guy was counting on his friend to bring him back to him, another thing that could have easily fallen through.
So whitey can whine or cry to anyone that has a ear..He got to see his girlfriend that he stated he hadn't seen since NY Eve and the real reason for the trip, he just didn't sell the dog to help pay for his gas. My conscious is clear on the deal or lack of.

That sounds more like it.
I was skeptical as to why he'd drive that far to sell a $300 dog?

Re: How would you handle this?
I bought my first pup off mike shepherd on july 7th of last year he met me in lexington and he did exactly like he said was right on time that he said. Then I bought another pup off him toward the end of august we worked out the deal on the pup and he met me and another man buying a dog off him in winchester, again what he said he did.He gave me two dogs and I wanted to see his kennel so I went this time to his house me and my wife, mike and his wife are some of the finest people and friendliest i have ever met they fed us pizza and before we left his wife made me a big cup of fresh coffee to go.i also got in a bad shape financially and needed money so i decided to sell my dogs to get the money i needed,so mike wanted to help me out and asked me how much do i want for my dogs and i told him and i know he is a very busy man so i told him i would bring them to him,so we worked the deal out he gave me gas money for bringing them and by the way he gave me more than i asked for and he gave me a big cup of fresh hot coffee before i left his house.i read all everyone said and people when you get to know shep he truly is a man of his word,i know from experience not what someone else says,so if you buy or sell him a dog you can rest easy and not wonder if he will do what he says or not, because he will
