Breeding question/slip tie
I have a female we are trying to breed back to her grandfather . He is about an inch shorter than her ,old and overweight. She is twelve days now and has excepted him the last two days. He gets it in does a happy dance but we haven't got a tie when he backs out. We have put him up on a ramp and pushed him in . If I don't get an actual tie what do you guys think my chance of getting pups is. I have read where this is common and people have got pups but wanted to hear what peoples experience in the real world is. We are going to keep trying till she won't except him any more hopefully we get a tie.
Thanks
Sam

Not sure, but in the human world, I presume the wife would call it premature ejaculation

Re: Breeding question/slip tie
from everything i read the tie is to keep the sperm in from flowing down and out. they say if hes doing a happy dance he is ejaculating. we have been pushing him forward trying to get a tie.. hopefully it happens. I thought that i should also add that this male is no longer owned by us but my buddy kept breeding rights , if he still had him he would brobably be in better physical condition.

Sam, You don't need a tie to have pups. What you do need is to hold him on for a few minutes. Wait for as long as you can to allow him to build back up , then it will take two of you guide him in and hold him on, the longer the better.

Ok here are a few ideas..Are you sure he is ejactulating? Is he knotting up but just not reaching her? If yes to both then after he dismounts hole her rear end up in the air for 5 minutes or stand her going downstairs.. Second thing you can do after that is get a bucket of cold water n throw on her rear end..she will tighten up and by instinct pull or clamp her rear end keeping all that fluid in side..trying not to get to graphic on h3re..
If not sure if your male is ejactulating you can always go the vet route an AI.

Sam, I have held them on and had puppies and another thing I have done is to artificial inseminate them. You can get puppies if both are fertile you may just have to work at it! Good Luck.

Re: Breeding question/slip tie
From experience in our dogs I can tell you that even when there isn't a tie, more than likely some sperm will get released and may fertilize some eggs.
What is more important is the health of both dogs, and the health of the sperm of the sire, as well as the timing of the bitch.
If you were to breed her to a different dog, you may get pups from 2 sires and you'd have to dna all the pups.
Good luck with your female!

Re: Breeding question/slip tie
I've seen two males that couldn't tie but produced pups. My buddy took his bitch to an advertised stud. He couldn't tie. The owner waited until he penetrated then held them together a couple of minutes. She had six pups.
