I love to see pay back time. Teaching these yotes who's the boss. They need to know when dogs and men are in the area, they need to move out. No beagles will get attack n your neck of the wood for the next couple month. Good job John!

We got our season started off with three this weekend... Absolutely addicting. I have hunted beagles for 25 years and still own two but this coyote hunting with hounds is Pure awesome.

Do you guys look for certain things in a coyote dog? Do they have to have a little edge to them or do you look for the same traits that a beagle has? Just wasnt sure if they needed to be any more aggressive.

DRIVE DRIVE DRIVE..... You have to have a dog that can make a check and doesn't go the wrong direction. We shoot a lot of ours in bayups in deep snow as the dogs catch them so they have to have the grit to hold them. The single picture was a 30lb male and my pup got a little chewed on before I got there but she did awesome job holding him. The hardest thing about coyote hunting is cold trailing and starting a yote. Sometimes you can cold trail during breeding season three miles or more. We have 300+ deer in a section so it takes a dog that has the drive explained above but also has patience enough to work a cold trail through a mess of off game. Cold trailers are tougher to come by. Catch dogs once the yote is up are easier to find. Conditioning on the hounds is important. You can easily get 20+ miles a day. Its similar to coaching a sports team as you have to find a good rotation within your pack. Absolutely addicting...

I'd say the norm is Walkers... However I've seen real good Redbones, Black an Tans, Blueticks, etc. Most guys use running walkers. We use treeing dogs as we run cats as well. We do have one running dog.

Mike V caught this bitch yote in my old hay field ( along a fence row) just, 50 yard from my kennel. He is using snares.
