Re: beagle shot
mo. has some kind of deer season from sept until middle of jan. rabbit season is over feb 15 so after the first gun season they are just going to have to move over.
Re: beagle shot
My license are just as valid as yours and as far as the 3 months of rabbit season here in Tennessee deer season starts 3rd to 4th week of Sept. and last until the 2nd week of January. Doesn't close for a single day with the exception they may have a few day window in October from time to time. Our rabbit season begins early Nov. and closes late Feb. So our rabbit season may be 4 months but you only have about 5 weeks after the all mighty deer hunters allow us to enter the woods. I mean really, I don't steal your tree stand when I see it, why would you even consider killing my dog? Anyone that thinks beagles "run deer off" are ignorant to the subject. Unless a beagle is running the deer, their movements and patterns will be altered little if any. Rabbit hunters are much more likely to run the deer off than their beagles, we gonna start shooting them to?
Re: beagle shot
begles, we must have posted about the same time cause mine is right under yours. Wasn't directing my response toward you, it just happened that way.

Re: beagle shot
I wish somebody would shoot my dogs!! Deer season or not. 13,23,33,43.
Re: beagle shot
This is directed at any one deer hunter that would shoot my dog. I carry a chain saw in my truck. Shoot my dog then see if you can get to the ground before the tree does. THATS A PROMISE.
Re: beagle shot
...........................................................................................................i keep hearing the deer hunter, if you look at it, we run our beagles year around, and yes there are the weekend warriors that only gun hunt which is in most places two to three weeks. but beaglers are in the woods year around, why not rest the dogs a few days till the season is over. as i stated not saying i would or wouldnt but i myself several times have had hunts blown due to wondering dogs. so i can understand why someone would shoot any dog, especially on their own land. the kid should have never been by himself, and yes the parents fault but i would bet that his dad probally said to shoot a dog if it comes in . and sorry but i wouldnt be cuttin down any tree while someone is holding a rifle in their hands, not smart having your dogs out in rifle season, but that would be just down right dumb!!!!Tsa la gi wrote:This is directed at any one deer hunter that would shoot my dog. I'd be willing to bet that the boy has heard many discussions about shooting dogs. His father must be a stand up guy to have the boy call and confess. Hope he learns a valuable life lesson. Sometimes facing the guy you screwed is the worst possible punishment.
Keep the best, cull the rest!

I can tell you one thing if any of kids ( i have 3 boys 10-12-23) ever shoot a dog no matter what house dog or hunting dog they will never hunt again as long as I'm around and it would be a very long time before they could set down!!!! they will go in front of the judge and take what he gives them. My boy have been raised to respect others and their property no matter what deer, rabbit or dogs!!!!!!

Re: beagle shot
Mine was more of a general response not really aimed toward anyone. Our issue in tennessee (where the incident occurred) is rifle season opens about the same time rabbit season does (sometimes earlier or later by a week) and runs to the 2nd week of January. There may be a week of black powder in there but that's a long time to lay up then when the stupidly long rifle season is finally over you're into the worst part of the year to run rabbits. I don't care much about killing a pile but going day after day of hard frost mornings & really cold temps makes it hard on man & beast to enjoy, especially when I'm looking at a day like today of 45 degrees all day with heavy overcast & an occasional light drizzle but I can't go because of some jerk wad deer hunter that thinks he owns he world. Don't get me wrong, I've deer hunted since I was 6 years old but I've never even thought about killing any dog other than a yote. I know it would be wrong to knowingly hunt near someone deer hunting. They've got as much right as I do but at he same time if I've got the same right to be there then why does deer hunting become more important than rabbit? And I really don't know where any deer hunter gets that they get to be judge, jury, & executioner. Another poster said he carries a chain saw in his truck. Well I don't but I do carry a lighter & it's a long ass walk home.bodetis wrote:Crow wrote:My license are just as valid as yours and as far as the 3 months of rabbit season here in Tennessee deer season starts 3rd to 4th week of Sept. and last until the 2nd week of January. Re: beagle shot
sir if you or anyone else shot my dog over a deer , there would be serious reaction to your action // just a note . a friend of mine some years back had his dog shot by a mad neighbor ,the neighbor had to pay the price he wanted for the dog ..and future litters he could have produced i forget how much he got but it was a bushell load .. i would go after the same thing ,..bodetis wrote:no way i would be hunting or running during rifle season. i deer and rabbit hunt and i have a lot of money and time into my deer huunting also, so i know if any dog stray or rabbit messes up my hunt, not sayen i would but i would probaly want to shoot one myself. just not smart . but also agree a 13 year old should not be turned on his own with a high powered rifle!!!! most places you get 3 months of rabbit hunting , why chance it

....................................................................................... mr preacher i my self own dogs and i would be upset if one of mine got shot, some who have done nothen but run and hunt beagles their whole life and have never hunted anything else , will feel the same way you do. as some who do deer hunt that would feel the way you do. and thats fine but the reality of it is that alot of hunters are looking for that buck of a lifetime and wont tolerate dogs messing that up. there are wild dogs out there that need to be shot just like coyotes. most probally on here wont admit to it but im sure the ones that deer hunt also have at one time or another came close or thought that if a dog ever did come in they would shoot it. its just part of it. i myself would never put me or my dogs in that situation period. jmoPREACHERS KENNEL wrote:sir if you or anyone else shot my dog over a deer , there would be serious reaction to your action // just a note . a friend of mine some years back had his dog shot by a mad neighbor ,the neighbor had to pay the price he wanted for the dog ..and future litters he could have produced i forget how much he got but it was a bushell load .. i would go after the same thing ,..bodetis wrote:no way i would be hunting or running during rifle season. i deer and rabbit hunt and i have a lot of money and time into my deer huunting also, so i know if any dog stray or rabbit messes up my hunt, not sayen i would but i would probaly want to shoot one myself. just not smart . but also agree a 13 year old should not be turned on his own with a high powered rifle!!!! most places you get 3 months of rabbit hunting , why chance it
