peabody swamp rabbits

Post by brandon wilson »

was wondering if anyone could tell me some good spots on Peabody to find some swamp rabbits. or any other public land for that matter. always herd they were a lot bigger but never seen one I don't guess. I assume it would be easy to tell the difference. planning to head that way in a week or so.

Swampers do not run like cottontails. They run similar to a snowshoe hare. If you don`t know your dogs you would swear they were running a deer. They will also swim a river and swim across a pond.
Brandon pardon my ignorance but where is pea body?

We make a trip to Peabody every year, but have never jumped any swamp rabbits. Maybe we're just not hunting the right places to jump them though.

thats the first thing I thought when I read this post. I know I dont like giving up good hunting spots especially on a public board. Before you know it you got everyone and their brother in your hunting spots :hammer:

The only difference I notice is they will hit the water. When up and running they run simlar to the cottontail I use to run on Ohio reclaim strippmine grounds. JMO

Peabody is in western ky. old strip mines. I understand I reken not wanting to give up hunting spots. I haven't seen a lot of the land. the parts I seen look more like a place I would coon hunt rather than rabbit hunt but about all I hunt around here is crep fields but I guess there in the woods too. I don't like giving up my good crep fields either. im just looking for some different scenery more less.
