I'm only 15 minutes from French Lick. I take my fiancé out to eat down there a lot. Tons of good restaurants there. Also there is a go cart track there as well as putt putt and lazer tag. Enjoy yourself while your there.

Field trial moments.
1st in the Champions with Pine MT Freebird and second in the opens with Gentlemans Kentucky Rifle at the North Carolina State Hunt in 2008.
Funny part about that was the the glory was short lived. I drove home that night and set the 2 big trophies on the table while everybody was asleep. I woke up the next morning smelling bacon and coffee. When I walked in the Kitchen with my chest poked out my wife said of the trophies. What are you going to do with those ugly things and are you going to cut the grass today ? Chopped off at the knees !

Hunting.
Too many to name, but last year we had a half day hunt where we jumped 10 and killed 8. The dogs lost the first 2 in an old Hog Lot on a misty morning. After that the dogs jumped 8 more and ran close to check free the rest of the day until it got hot. True Pounding ! The day was topped off by the Wolfpack beating the Blue Devils in Basketball.
Where's the earth shattering kaboom ?

I've got a couple of stand outs, first was Belle. I had put her in a couple of sanctioned trials but nothing big. I decided she was ready and put her in the NEBGF all age championship, she won beating quite a few FC. I won the PBGA All Age trial With Ranger last year, class of 30 mostly FC's and my Ruby dog has won the Better Beagling Trial of champions the last 2 years at the NEBGF runoff. They didn't win over as many dogs as some but those were truly some proud moments.

Greatest moment(s)

They take me back A long way. All the way back to my first beagle. I remember having (where the red fern grows) moments. I remember the advertisement that I would read over and over in FUR FISH GAME magazine at 12 years old. Started and broke rabbit dogs. Champion bloodlines. Hickory hills kennels. Merle O Crain. Laclede IL.
Between my paper rout and mowing lawns all summer I was able to save enough money to finally give Merle a call. Long story short and I mean a roller coaster ride of a story I finally got two beagles from Merle. A male and a female. And as important as the beagles I got Merle also sent me a copy of THE RABBIT HUNTER magazine. I had no idea a magazine like that existed. I read that magazine over and over and have subscribed ever since.
One of those dogs Crains HH Little Bit was the first dog I ever championed out. A lprch. That to is another greatest moment. She had more hunt, heart, and grit than any dog I owned.
A couple years had passed since I got my dogs from Merle, and that brings me to my first trial ever. Living in Minnesota getting to a field trial was not easy. Especially when I was not old enough to drive. After begging my dad he finally decided to take me to the closest trial advertised in THE RABBIT HUNTER. The trial was in Kewanee IL. Happy hollow beagle club. A 6 hour drive from Wanasha MN. I will never forget the moment I turned old joe loose. First strike for joe (he was so mouthy) and the race was on. 90 minute casts back then. They ran the whole time. I will never forget my first cast at a trial ever. Eric Sebree judged. I ended up 2nd in the cast. Ron Eades (Sagomon Ridge Kennel) won the cast. I thought I was tough stuff placing right behind legends I only read about in magazine. Lol
The dog everyone at the trial was talking about was Sebrees Blackjack (I saw his name in the magazine too).
I ended up 10th that day. I was on top of the world. I have thrown away 1000's of trophies over the years but I still have that one. 10th place. Happy Hollow Beagle Club. That is an important on to me. My first trial.
Little did I know the "GREATEST MOMENTS" for me have just got started.
Can't type anymore. Checking out for now.

Glomski that was a great story.

I remember my first trial to. Back when LP ran 1 1/2 hour casts. It was the first hunt at pike county beagle club. It was 1992 I was 13 years old and took 6th place among the men that day and I thought I was a big shot. I always loved going to the mailbox and reading about the world hunt and the other big 5 and state hunts. I never could go to the big trials cause I didn't drive and my parents wouldn't let me go. However in 1997 I went to the grand nationals and I got to meet all these guys I read about in the magazine and I was in awe. A little star struck. I told mom and dad that one day if I could afford it and was able to travel that I wanted to be like these guys on the cover of the Rabbit Hunter magazine. After college and going through a bunch of average dogs, I finally found the one that would get me there. I never will forget winning my first big five hunt in little pack. I had been close so many times but in 2010 at the grand nationals phantom came through winning it. When they called the field trial we all knew I had won. The emotions ran through me like wildfire. All the hard work paid off. Never will forget ol Kevin Monroe huggin me and sayin,"it's a pretty good feeling ain't it big boy"

I have been fortunate enough to win that same trial again last year as well. Along with a few more like the juvenile diabetes fundraiser hunt where I won the grand class, the bench show, a new trash breaker, and my birthday as well. They were about to throw rocks at me and run me off lol

My greatsest moment of beagling and hunting is when i was 7 years old my father let me go with my grand pa rabbit hunting with his beagles for the first time. Back then we were not even poor but PO lol . My dad's plant was closed due to a fire for many months money was tight so no money for a 410 or 20 gauge. i had nothing to use but a single barrel 12 gauge, that day 3 of us hunted 9 rabbits were killed with myself killing 5 of them with 5 shots all running shots. i would get a feel for the dogs run to a funnel area or circling spot and nail them crossing the fields. i was so excited i did not feel the recoil though my cheek was red and shoulder sore the next day. I was hooked for life. Some other great moments were Churchs Blue Flame Jet winning Derby of the Year, winning the National Beagle Club's Triple Challenge large pack trial in a combined class against some the nations elite hounds against hounds half his age he was 7 yrs old. That same year he won several UKC State hunts and the Mcvay hunt. Some the hunts had 150 to over 300 entries. another special moment is having FCGD Church's Blue Flame Hector finish with many big wins over top knotch high hound dogs in his career, and Jet winning over a NLPC not running hare in 2 years in only cottontail shape, and BOTH these hounds placing in the mwgda run off. There was no words to describe the feelings of happiness, thankfulness, and appreciation. In my mind I thanked the Lord for these blessings. Nothing compares to knowing I have a saviour in our Lord Jesus Christ to atone for my sins. The little hounds talent and some very special friends helping get them to some these trials I could not attend made it possible.

my dad passed away while i was hunting November 23 1996 i sold all my dogs guns and quit hunting i felt like rabbit hunting took something away from me i shouldnt have missed so i got married and 6 or 7 years passed and i decided to try it one more time i thought the passion had left me for good so i found some ol hunters and got invited to go and when i killed my first rabbit in years i started to cry alittle i realized he was still with me and he njoyed watching me do what i loved so now i have my own dogs and children they first day hunting after so long would have to be top 2
number 1 is watching my son train his own pup he has a pretty nice dog to just be 11 months old he would drag ham or chicken or whatever his mom was about to skin him over threw the yard and go get his pup and let him find it i thought it was funny looking but it got him using his nose I LOVE THIS POST please keep it going

As Chad Blair stated about 88-89 i had never actually belonged to a club Patrica Bruner invited me to the shelby county beagle club. I met guys i could only read about, Earl Bruner , Wayne Waits, Walter Sharp, David Slaugh. I was actually pretty star struck to say the least.I keep going everytime there was a meeting or got the invite from somebody to run dogs. Next thing i knew i was taking a judging test. From that point on it was at least 3-4 rounds per hunt them boys sure used me to judge like a borrowed mule. I still remember what wayne told me to this day, '"Dont make judging any harder than it is, bring the dog back you would loved to gun hunted over that day the rest will work out Jimmie".......True words spoken from one of my heros to this day. When Wayne past on it truly broke my back he was winning world hunts and his home looked like a museum full of awards. We drove alot of roads together and he give years of Advice.
Maybe i am a little old school but todays crowd just aint the same, good people still. I am to old to judge now and i have pretty much stepped in the shadows of competing. Occasionally i show but my mind has a million things running thru it. I recently went to waynes grave and just sit and talked to my friend about all the Good times we shared. Funny how sometimes crying will make a man fill better, or at least it did me. I still got Bobby Vest and he means so much to me . He will text or call and give me updates on what our prospects are doing. God truly will fill voids in ur life if you allow him. I like this post alot it brings back alot of memories i hold close to my heart. Thanks Abshire.
