Breeding ?

If you raised a pup and he turned out to be everything you looked for in a beagle would you go back to his mother with him to lock the trait or is that to much of a gamble?
And if it has been done can someone give me references on the dogs on how they turned out.

I don't know if I would try this or not. You might get 1 or 2 great hounds but probably get some with severe problems (depending on how much linebreeding is already there). Might try to breed your pup to another female and go with a grandpup. Not saying don't do it but you should keep all pups to see what they do. I think it has been done but can't think of any hounds from these crosses. Hope I helped some.

Too close for me. I guess if you were prepared to cull heavy than go ahead and give it a try.

i'm like pete & kevin, that's pretty close. you may get a few good pups
but get ready to do some severe culling.

Swing I've done this 3 times now and here is what my line has given me.1st cross was full brother to sister cross kept 1 female she started very young looked very promising but in the end lacked hunt gave up easily,but now when I linebreed back into her she throws some real good pups with hunt.2nd cross was mother to a son kept 1 female kind of same thing,just had a litter of pups from her will keep 1male 1 female these pups act really good only time will tell.3rd cross was father back toa daughter kept 1 female she has great hunt and looks just like her mother,I plan on breeding her back to her father again to lock in the traits I want.From what I've read some cross may fall short of what you expect but if you go 1 cross more you end up with great things that is what I'm experimenting with here,I know on my first 2 crosses they had short comings but I was looking to lock in on certain traits and to hopfully be able to bring them out in future breedings and the cross with father /daugther was to test the male for prepotecy and he's getting old so I need as much back up as possible to hep carry on the line I'm working with here.And out of any of these crosses there was NOT a single birth defect,and thats another reason I'm doing what I do to bring the good the bad and the ugly out so I know what I'm working with here.So in closing the only way your gonna know is to try and remember they all don't turn out and be ready to cull hard if you see something you don't like or that shouldn't be passed along.Steve

Dogs have nearly twice as many chromosomes as humans.

Go for it! The pups would be only 75% linebred/inbred.

Granted the mother is as excellent as your male, i'd make the cross in a heart beat! Take the best female from this cross and go back to your male's father? Only if these dogs are super. Don't get kennel blind!!

Pay attention to how Person Creek Stub is used.

Ike went on to produce some very good dogs and is up close in a dog named Rob's Diamond II. Rob's Diamond II was in turn used heavily in the production of a great dog, and reproducer of great dogs, Named Postoak Little Nip Otis.

Steve, Why did you not keep all pups made from these crosses?When you make those crosses the only way you will know whats what is to keep'm all
and see what they tunr in to and be ready to cull hard very hard if needed.
Now I'm not saying that you made bad crosses I do some of the same.
I'm just saying you got to see them all do begain to know what you have produced.

Will Mason has a bitch that is out of Kingwoods T-Rex and a daughter to T-Rex. I have never seen her run, but from what I understand she has extreme hunt and runs pretty good. The real upside is that her pups are really good. I've seen them run and can tell you that a few of them are hard to beat. Will has one of those pups and he can tell you more. I wouldn't be afraid to do it at all, if the dogs are really strong with very few faults.

Only problem is, Will will lie to a guy, I have first hand experience, and gave the guy plenty of time to come clean. I have lost all respect for Will after point blank lieing to me.

You already got a daughter to grand son cross there in two generations that is going be breeding close, but it may work I'd rather have a mother -son or father-daughter then to have the brother- sister I've seen some pitiful dogs from that brother-sister cross. If I was going breed that close I'd be prepared to keep all the pups until they were at least a year old and be able to do some serious culling. That's my opinion, that and $.75 will get you a coke!

swing your better off out crossing one time keep a male pup then breed back with this gyp grandson to grandmother,,,,,,,,but this is the way i breed if im keeping good gun dogs,,,,
