I ment traditional gun dog brace. Gun runner the most important thing is that you have to try to get to trials that run your type dog. I like to think it is not so much of a speed thing as it is accuracy. You can run a faster dog in a slower trial format but it better be clean. As they stand out more in a pack. I've been at some of the more conservative clubs and seen a pretty quick dog win the trial running because it was clean. If your faster but making mistakes your asking to be picked up at those trial. If you get better beagling look at the trial results in areas of the north east. When you see dogs listed you will also see the sire and dam listed. When you see dogs placing with the same bloodlines your running then thats the area you should be going too.

This is a simple question not lookung to argue the format of the video on this post......Do u guys ever Get the mark line?? How do u score dogs if ya don't see the game?? Running behind the dogs makes me.believe u guys don't no where the game went ur trusting the hounds?? The seminars I took insisted that u must have a mark line to put any positive or negative score on a hound!! Jmho!!

I guess I should have look into more.( jmo ) I thought a rabbit dog only ran rabbit's and did not pop off here and there without producing the game. I would have shoot 3 or 4 dogs before I ever started hunting if they were mine.

I no der was six or seven ppl in the video that were chasing the hounds through the cat tails across feilds com on men what's ur explanations! I don't care what format u want ta run chasing the pack and not seeing the mark line is ridiculous and iam sur u guys aren't getting the best hound!! When u guys hunt is that how ya kill da rabbit from behind the dogs????

Im sorry, not trying to start any trouble but i cant help but get angry when seeing those videos. WHY are you CHASING the DOGS!??!

I have only been to 5 trials (all large pack), and i know how some say those arent real hunting scenarios with 30 hounds running at once but all 5 of those trials the judges saw the rabbit, scored that marked line. Never do the judges chase hounds. They wait where they see the rabbit go through until the pack comes in on it.

I know this isnt a debate on which format is best but this brace thing really puzzles me.

I will not let this go as iam passionate about this sport and I don't care what format cause NO format do u score dogs wid out.seeing the mark line!!! In my opinion u guys are not helping this sport in any means by how u showed us how u guys judge a trial!!! I gess I only can call it INCOMPETENT JUDGES/JUDGING!!!!

I can't believe u can post compliments if u answered yes ta my above questions! The only ting gud bout that video is how smooth Mark is wid a video camera!!!

Someone please just give an answer. Its not that we want an argument but akc field trial judge seminars teach to only score a marked line buy there are no marked lines in that video

i dont normally get in on these questions but ive been apprenticing under some of the best judges around my area and not once have we scored a marked line without seeing the rabbit with our own eyes. we never trust the hounds, we only trust what we see with our own eyes. ive seen many dogs run "ghost rabbits" and they always get caught. How do you catch them when you run behind them and not see the rabbit go through?

I didn't see the whole video but as open as the ground is, I would suspect you can see a marked line from a good distance. If you can keep up to the hounds like that, I bet the rabbit isn't really moving that fast/far ahead of the hounds and you may be able to get a marked line from behind...I am lucky if I can get a line when I try to video my hounds and they are not that fast.
