Hey CC come to the pound hunt on feb 23 we will all talk about it then.free bbq hog.Love to have you in it.need some good judges like you.
Had alot of calls about two couple pack trials what speed of dogs?First of all you need 4 dogs that will hunt, not three but four..And a good med speed or upper med with all 4 dogs in a blanket.Much as what I ve seen you need 4 dogs that will work together.I ve been doing these trials for 12 years now and never had I seen one person saying.SO SO dog is messing my up.Its just your four dogs.I do know this its very hard to do.Put 4 dogs in a blanket.

Re: AKC two couple pack trial in NC coming soon.
Learning more about this. Its not an Akc two couple pack trial but A master trial started in 2010.Dogs have to be AKC but the rules are a little different but still a two couple pack. The fasting growing format out there.Speed don t matter. There looking the fastest 4 dog pack that can run the rabbit period. But the 4 dogs have to stay on the rabbit with speed.( I like that)I look at a pack of dogs at the last trial that a man just went to buy. They were the speed of dogs that we run around in out trials here.Goodlooking packJust talk to Steve that sold them and he said they were his slowest pack.Master trial are looking a faster pack .But they have to stay on the rabbit.Steve won the nal last year 1an 2nd in the trial. He said what it is an the reason its a growing like it is, that people are tired of going to a trial and dogs in the trial are messing things up and want be pick up.This Master trial is just your 4 dogs nobody eles. Now if something is messing the running up.Its your dog.Nobody eles.So far I like what I hear.I like were the 4 dogs have to hunt.then run the rabbit.Just don t know what I would do about 40 or 50 packs in a trial. They say split them. That would still take along time.wish our club the best of luck because we are in our way to be licn.I will give more info out when I hear more about it.

Wish you were closer. I love the two couple pack. I hope they catch on up this way. We have tried a couple different times at our club but were not very successful.
Good Luck Earl,

I may be looking at this wrong. I just can't see why it Wouldn't Favor slower style dogs.
Example:
( Not trying to be smart)
A) This group of four dogs runs for 15 mins. Circles the Rabbit 4 times . The judge sees the Rabbit on all four passes. They also have four short 8 to 10 second checks in their 15 min. time frame.
B) This group of four dogs runs for 15 mins. They only run 250 yards in there time fame and never have a breakdown . They never make a circle in there aloted time but also never have a check.
Does this mean Group B wins???
I'm sure most rabbit hunters would want group A.

The clock is not the entire factor. You still have to judge who progresses the rabbit.
In your example, I doubt group "B" is going to run check free.
If both groups have 45 seconds of total breakdown, in a 15 minute run, then its the judges decision to come up with the winner. Ultimately, you still have to judge the dogs.
Even if group "A" has 60 seconds of breakdown and and group "B" has 45 seconds, its still at the judges discretion. Breakdowns are also a tricky one. I think "downtime" in the 2cpl is considered when, and only if 2 or less of the pack is barking. So if, your pack only has 2 of 4 dogs barking at a check, the clock starts. When the 3rd dog starts to tongue, the clock stops. Don't quote me on that, but I think that is the rule.

Lee pack A will win. But` they have to(AllFour Dogs)stay on the line and show everything the rabbit did.I understand what your saying.Only seen a handfull of fast dogs win.And the biggest reason why, they got on a good rabbit. One that wanted to run. Were a lot of dogs mess up at is at the check. They run through it and never look back.Jumping another rabbit. The only thing I see wrong.never seen a pack circle the rabbit 4 times in 15 min.If you do have such dogs You could win easy.8 to 10 sec lost in 15 min should be a catch rabbit.Liston if yall have never try a trial before.I m having one March the 2nd.Your dogs have to stay on the line.Cannot have a check and pick it up 25 yards over.To much.Cannot jump of the chech and jump another rabbit. You have to stay on the rabbit you re on.What they are trying to do is like if you go hunting and there s not that many rabbits there and when you jump one.You can say.Dead rabbit. You want to stay on it,and run it.Its like I said.I used to have rough dogs and they were good in lots of rabbits.I was alway looking the fastes dogs and looking were lots of rabbits to hunt. But go were they want many.Well that all I ve got to say about that.just come to a trial.I ve seen med speed dogs run a rabbit faster than some fast dogs. Why, there not speeding alot of time looking were they lost the rabbit.
Dose anybody out there have a pack A.I sure would love to see a pack like that.Don t forget.March the 2nd.
Pack b would lose if thers a pack A.
Not putting down fast dogs I used to have them and my most enjoy time rabbit hunting was with them. But it got to the point its just harder and harder to find rabbits.and my age is catching up on me too.You re right Lee some of these pack are to slow to hunt with.I ve been there too.But I m likeing this new Two couple pack trials. There looking speed.

Another part is that in 2cpl each dog is to contribute equally to the run. You cant have one dog dominate a pack and the other 3 tag along. Some of the "faster" packs Ive seen you tend to have one or two more powerful dogs, do all the work. That would mean that the two that aren't contributing to the pack are getting deductions on your overall score. From what I gather its as much of a challenge putting 4 compatible dogs together as anything. The guys that have been running this style/format for a long time really study the dogs. They try to find 4 that work together.....Not work against each other, or feed off each other. Some of the best packs ive seen, at a check youll see the lead dog check ahead, the second dog check left, the third dog check right and the back dog work the point of loss. Then once one comes up with it they all slot in, and dont compete with each other....They just line up and go.
Lewis Perry with the LP's dogs probably had the best pack Ive ever seen in a 2cpl hunt test. I wish I could have recorded it...Quite a show.
