Run as fast as the conditions allow. I will admit, I love a driving race at full speed, but then I appreciate when they slow down and walk it out on an icy gravel road. Both ends of the spectrum impress me. I have to say an upper medium to medium seems to do that for me the best, some lines are better at it than others I have seen. True point of loss is something that I strive for, independence from the pack and back to where the track was last found, makes for better running on all of the rabbit they can run.
I really don't understand what people mean when they say, runs too much rabbit?? I go to hear a race, a steady pursuit, if they run all the track at a speed where they can handle it and pursue the game with intent to catch it, I AM COMPLETELY SATISFIED!! Makes for a great day!
Runs too much rabbit usually means there is one or 2 dominating while the rest playing catch up .

I like Patch Hounds. Went running with reddog1 last week and the dogs did it all. Slow in the morning but stuck with it, and then wide open later in the day when the condtions improved. It was great dog work and made for a fun day.
If only the hunters were as good we would have cleaned up on the rabbits.

What type of dog are you getting out of the Hayden blood Chris? I have heard GREAT things about these dogs. May have to pick up a pup myself soon.

I run a Medium to 1/2 step above when they are pushing the Rabbit you can not keep up with them if you were running in a open field and they were running in briars. They must have NOSE to smell in less that ideal conditions (Frosty Mornings and August Heat) BUT must not "Blow Holes/Babble" on a frosty morning that is where the brains come into play.
They have to have enough brains to Chase the Bunny BUT not to turn it into a "Dog Race" and cause "Train Wrecks" because of the over running of the track (Again BRAINS) and they have to stick (Heart) in a tough check.
Too many of the fast dogs that I have seen "Must have put him in a Hole" in reality they lost him and gave up the check.
