A general forum for the discussion of hunting with beagles, guns, clothing and other equipment and just talking dawgs! (Tall tales on hunting allowed, but remember, first liar doesn't stand a chance)
i have a real nice lil bitch who come from Dingus Lines.... she will run the rabbit nice... i new that gun season was just around the corner so i thought i better get something to go with her...so i bought me another lil female to go with her.. she will run the soup out of a rabbit but she is a lil slower and she is getting left when my other dog gets that check, any suggestions
Keep running them together. I have one that was like this for a while. She could stay on the line real good, but would get left behind when the rest of the pack took off. I just kept running them together, and now she runs right with them all the time now.
Becareful because if one is slower and you keep running them together sooner or later the slow dog will stop running the line (rabbit ) and just run to stay up with the other one. You think shes getting faster because she is up there giving mouth with the other one but I have seen it where they are just barking and following the faster dog around. They learn that the other dog has the rabbit and all they have to do is run with them.
AFTERSHOCK
i totally agree with AFTERSHOCK. if you continue to run them you could "blow " the slower dog up. i would sell her and get one that is the same speed....scott
I always cut from the rear! You don't have to worry about how your dogs will do with anyone that wants to run with you if your have a fast pack or dog.
Others with slower packs worry too much about how someone elses dogs might mess theirs up.
I would run the dog and watch her real close you can tell when she is barking on rabbit or dog. If she picks up and pulls to the back of the pack and then goes back to trailing the rabbit she could make you a good dog. I want my dog to open when it has sent, the back dog will not get as much scent as the led dog so it will not bark as much, if my last dog is giving a lot of mouth I will watch it and make sure it is not dog running.
You need to watch her she might make some turns for you. (my opinion)
