Im not sure its a cure all but it does allow me to see what a dog does and doesnt have. The pack is a beautiful thing for dogs that have to have help running a rabbit,or require constant support in doing so. If all you guys that laugh at soloing run 6,8,10 dogs at a time and never look at a dog as an individual do you still worry about what that dog "throws" when looking at breeding it? If so why? Chances are a pasckmate will have some of the tools to cover or mask anothers short comings. If it took a pack of dogs to properly run a hare I would quit doing this. With that being said I dont solo as much as I would like to because of time but all my dogs do get there fair share when they are young and if time is the excuse some one is using then they keep to many dogs plain and simple.

You know me too well Chad. One thing for sure, I have spent a lot of time in the woods by myself. And somewhere there is a guy with a grove of grapefruit trees that owes me for his success.

All kiddin aside though Jim does have a lot of good points (that's if you can get past his cynical and snide buckeye attitude) lol

Do I solo?? Yes, but it is very rarely. I don't own a bunch of dogs and I don't run with anyone other than my best friend and that isn't a lot. However I have found that I brace and run a trio a lot more these days, and that's just because that's all I have to run other than a couple of senior citizens and a couple pups. I like to see their packmates make them work hard and earn their spot in the starting lineup. Nothin better than seeing a young dog step up and jump rabbits and take the drives in front of the older dogs.

Everyone has their own perspective on how it's done. But usually when I learn the most it's from guys that have established themselves as reputable persons in the field and I do this crazy thing that a lot of people don't practice.....I listen! Especially from the old timers.

I don't really know you but I have to admit you gave me a laugh when I see a kennel named "Born Again" that cusses (bs) in response to a post.

I apologize if my sorry attempt at humor caused you to lose your temper and forget your religion. I was just trying to have a little fun at the expense of all of the solo experts with years of experience and a passion for listening to their tracking champions hack around the briar patch.

Happy Holidays!

Jim - Would soloing a dog help me from being the "worst judge in 40 years" to only being the worst judge in 20 years?

Merry Christmas from one cynical buckeye to another.... ;)
