Above ground is way better in my opinion. The dogs aren't walking in urine or crap and you don't bust your butt when you go in to feed the dogs during the winter months...urine ice is pretty dang slippery. It's also easy to keep above ground kennels clean in the winter, no worrying about the poopcicles frozen to the concrete.

I have a nice cement slab sitting under my above ground kennels, everybody said it's the only way to go.....I disagree....used it for one year while I researched the above ground route and am glad I switched.

When I first got into beagles years ago I put them on concrete because of the ease of cleaning and sanitation (bleach water). An old dog I owned got so she could hardly run any more, figured I'd just take care of her in her old age. Because of a divorce, I moved, and put the dogs back on the ground; it wasn't long before the old gal was running like a younger dog again. I got quite a few more years more out of her. I'll never go back to concrete; I use pea gravel now.
Thanks,
Bob

concrete slab, is the best way if you shot the slab with a transit there will not be nothin stand on the concrete water wise, and you can take a water hose and wash the crap off the slab, and you can go as far as to put in a sewer system if the smell bothers you that bad. or just use some good ol ag lime.

Concreat sucks for dogs. Gives them joint problms, holds worm eggs of all kinds.
Pee soaks in the creat and turns the dogs coat yellowish.

Really anyone who has had both will tell u off the ground is better for ur beagles. Although I put pups on the ground for there first few months so they learn to walk right as if the are raised in the off the ground kennel. They can sometime walk funny when first hit the ground.

Above ground for me. I switched to above ground several years ago and have less trouble keeping worms out of them and their coats look a lot better. I can bring in a new dog with a rough looking coat and in no time it's coat will become healthier looking. The only problem I have found with above ground is that their toe nails will grow out fast if you don't keep them run up but that will be the owners fault.

I only have 2 on the ground but I think it's better. The pen is 30 foot by 20 foot, pea gravel on one side, dirt on the other half. They use the one end for the bathroom and the gravel side for laying around. Shovel it out once a week.

The other one is either on my recliner or on my couch, she seems to like her living arrangment well.

IF above ground is So good then WHY dont all the major breeders use em???? maintenance and sanitation were My major reasons for concrete More ROOM for the dogs was the other one hard to get 15' X 5' Runs in the air!!Mine all lead to indoor housing 5'x'5 with dog houses included under shelter heating Cooling and ease of access as well as exercise cause face it we caint always run em as much as they need!!!I Do have to clean more I hose em out into a drain to a septic system twice a week and bleach odoban once a month..

I've never had above ground kennels but I have my dogs on concrete. It has a slope and a trench at the back. I just spray them out every day..

I wouldn't mind giving above ground kennels a try after hearing so many great things about them. There's nothing wrong with keeping your dogs on concrete if you keep your pens clean..It rarely gets cold enough here for ice..sadly.

My vote is for above ground kennels. I've never used concrete slab though. I dont see why I'd want to either. Above ground is the way to go.
