Night running

what are the draw backs of running at night? my works not letting me run mornings and evenings like I need. I have locator lights just might need a spot light. I know I may bump deer but was wondering about bad habbits that might form

Its never a bad thing to run at night. Just make sure you have shock collars on, and a flash light. I have not seen any bad habits that come from running at night.

i love to run at night. rabbits seem to stay up and dont hole either, plus its easier to get on a rabbit at night bc there out. that in itself can be a drawback bc the dogs dont have to hunt as hard to find a rabbit at times. seems like if we turn out at 8pm were on a rabbit before we can set our butts on the tailgate... lol. ive been a firm believer that if you field trial and want your dogs in shape, running at night is a fast way to get them ready bc its hours and hours of constant running .

Amen!!! Ive also broke a few pups that after the track got pretty hot were constantly looking for the jump and sight race (from Running to many day time jack rabbits) and would destory a race didnt have the brains to put there nose back on the ground. More than likely wouldnt feed one like that now but it sure brought them out of it running at night were they couldnt use there eyes. More rabbits out and about and I feel like they run bigger. But gotta have lights on your dogs in this area to many coyotes. Besides its the only way to go in the summertime in my opion.

I run at night all the time.
I work 12 hour days and it's the only time I can run except on weekends.
I use Marshall lighted tracking collars, they work really well.
The hounds are color coded so you know which hound is which by the color of the lighted collar not to mention the safety factor if they get near a road.

Takes hunt out of dogs. Game are out moving at night so a dog does not have to look hard for a rabbit. JMO

But arent dogs supposed to be bred with hunt already?. How can we take hunt away if it is trually in the breeding? I have seen dogs that just dont want to hunt, day or night. I dont think it has to do with game being easier to find..if anything it should pump them up even more with all the rabbits there is to chase at night, and make them search even harder when rabbits are not so easy to find JMHO.

I can't stand a lazy hound, I do not tolerate lack of hunt and I haven't seen any ill effects by running at night in my hounds.
We don't have a lot of rabbits to begin with, so I don't see the abundance with night running.
They do stay up a lot longer however, which makes for some nice long runs.

In my opinion, hunt is either in them or it's not, regardless of what time of day or night it is.

I've never had any issue's run'n at night , I'm with the guys that say hunt is either there or it isn't. Run's are longer for me and in the summer heat it's about the only way to keep them in shape + I'd rather hear them if its dark than lay them up .
Best thing I can tell U is to know your hound when run'n at night , if you know them and how they run a rabbit u will be alot more at ease , also I've not seen anymore deer issue's at night , luckly I don't have dogs that care for deer.

I run at night alot,but it will take away from jump power because they look for a track and not for the rabbit.At night rabbits arent in the thick places their out running around.I dont think hurts the hunt of a dog just the way it hunts and where it looks for a rabbit at.
