Lets Build A hound too Die For

Post by Mapel Valley Kennels LLC. »

I been thinking alot about different lines and what lines offer what traits, if you could build a hound how would it be bred and why?

Sire: Durbin Valley Hitman Hart

Dam: A tough bitch out of MJR MITSOU ARGENTUIL Striker.

Striker seems to throw a good nose, stamina, good hunt tons of grit. Hitman seems to throw grit, and hunt along with quick check work and lock on ability.

I know that this cross has been made and have heard that owners are happy.

If I could build from scratch it would be a 15" bitch with no extra mouth at all, nose to smell in any situation and run it with great command!! Brains to go back to the no extra mouth, big booming mouth, perfect confirmation, lots of hunt, great kennel manners, desire to want to kick everything out there's azz, and speed to run the front on anything out there!!! And of course it would have to be in my kennel :D

Blodline wouldn't matter to me as long as it had all of these

Well if we get to choose:

1. I would trade the nose of a beagle for the nose of a brown bear-- (they have the best sense of smell of any land animal we know of and its WAY better than a bloodhound)

2. I would trade its brains for a Dolphin, chimp or an elephant (probably the smartest three animals on the planet)

3. Give it the speed of a cheetah (maybe a lil slower so it don't kill everything)

4. Keep the same looks as a beagle (maybe a pretty one like Uno but 12 inches so I can feed it less)

5. Give it retracable claws like a cat just because that would be pretty cool :D

Then breed it and sell it for 15,000 a pup..... WOuld be well worth it for the first few people who bought it and won every hunt they ever entered...

Jimmie,
Mine would be a full 15" bluetick female out of Jigs Maggies Mate by a direct Jack Of All Trades female and then crossed back to Jack. Why? Because Jigs buts the grub it out hunt in them and I have been told by several people that you can never get too much Jack. Some don't like line breeding that close but that is what I would like to have.

First off a dog with brains, then hunt, hunt and more hunt a true jump dog contendor. When it came to running a rabbit good foot with plenty of gears. It dosn't have to be a front runner,I like running 3 or 4 in a pack.A smooth running hound that will smooth out a whole pack of dogs. Not super compeditive but if others are running rough break it off in them on checks be it from the middle or back of the pack. Then make them pay by playing catch up....Did I mention HUNT!!!!!! I'm trying to make this hound myself ,I think the right combination of Indian Hills/New City/and Jigs will produce it,still working on the combination.Getting closer but still working on it.

First it would have the tracking ability of spicers blue back. The mouth. of Waylons bomb. The jumping ability of smiths lady. The stamina of. Doug Bragg's Buck patch dog. The speed of mark stumps kicker dog. The desire of swartz bigtime. The energy of smiths weedeater Rudy or bruners big Ben. The snow nose and snow brains of streak.
love patch hounds for desire and stamina

To build a hound of excellence? Will I sure am not a professional by all means But, First I would say you need to figure out what kind of hound you like. After that work on the things you like to see in your hound. In my opinion my kind of hound is a Hill Shaker X Jigs bred hound. If you get this right you will produce a awesome cross and a proven one. My cross I made was Frenchmans Zacary Last X Hill Shakers Little Candy Girl if you no of these to fine hounds I think you would say Fine job Jim and Trevor. We tried to get a pup from this cross that would run well in AKC and UKC Hunting Beagle/Performance Pack. This pup I got from this cross is a real nice hunting beagle that will run a rabbits azz off. I will say nothing more about this pup. I will let the pup speak for itself :bigsmile: WHY this cross? Extreme hunt, Line control, excellent check work, brains to slow down when needed and the speed to drive out a check. I like the desire the pup has its all business. Not afraid getting in the brush. Awesome tracking ability ;) Hill Shaker, Jigs, A jack of all Trades { awesome stuff }
