looking for hunt

Post by Dale L. »

What studs out there are putting that grub around in the briars kind of hunt in their pups. I own some Buzzsaw offspring and love them but gotta get some new blood if I am going to be able to breed. I would like to find a stud or line that puts similar hunt in the pups. I also prefer a dog that is a step or two slower than what most of you guys probably run. 6-7 on speed is good for me. I like a dog that turns with the rabbit and if it does over run snaps back quick. I am not a fan of swinging, cutting, or extremly competitve hounds. Would some of Dexter Reffet's stuff be what I am looking for? I am a gun hunter only. My dogs don't have to run the front but I do want them to stay close and clean up the messes I see so many of the 8+ on speed dogs make. Thanks for any input.

Too me Dexter would be the man to go to. Hunt and Hunt is not a problem with his line- Good enuff speed and all day stamina. He is kinda hard to get a hold of but it will be worth your wait.

Two dogs who we have bred to here recently are FC Redbarn's J-bird and FC Honey Woods Willie Whopper. Pups are about 6 months old now and are already tearing up the brush looking for rabbits. we run a speed of about 7 in my opinion. a SPO speed type hound but with more hunt.

Thanks for the replies guys. Keep em comin if you got anymore. Looks like I may need to see Dexter. Did anyone on here ever see Sampson go and what type of dogs did he produce. I was thinkin about gettin somethin along those lines. I think Dexter may have a dog named Sampson 2 who is out of Sampson and the same female my Buzzsaw male is out of. Does anyone have his contact info?

Just my honest opinion. Dexter has bred the same lines and culled hard to get to the point of near perfection.Go watch his hounds sometimes and it is actually true poetry in motion. Dale i seen sampson but never got to run with him. Depending on your location others may have his line of hounds but i would cut straight to the source and shake the tree. He is a super fella too deal with. Most of his dogs have good size dont see alot of runts.I just bred my bitch and got 2 nice looking males we are gonna play with they are about 8 weeks ,bobby says they are already hitting the briars. Pretty amazing.

good description of an excellent hunting dog! which is what the trials were meant to promote; how in the hell we ever got to all this "first dog" stuff is wayyyyyy beyond me; other than owners competing with dogs they dont hunt with! You never hear any trialer talking about how accurately a hound blisters a rabbit; its all about wreckless speed ........and that dont fill the pot on the stove! :bash:
