Hey, thanks for the kind words and for watching the video's. I have a male that is 1st cousins to that Snookie dog. His dam and her dam are litter mate sisters, both FC from here in the north east. The top side to the male is line bred old Brad-ju breeding and the bottom is Moss Glen breeding and he is really nice!!! Runs like that Snookie dog but with more foot. He has been stealing the front on my older females and running it, he is only 9 months. I've beed fortunat enough to get some nice blood lines in my kennel and to breed to some nice hounds.....Good running to you all....DH

I buried my Ranger Dan male a couple months back, a very sad day, he was only 9. The best gun dog I owned. He did nothing wrong and a whole lot right. Great hunt in the worst briars, big nose, medium speed (could of had more to suit me) and excellent check work and line control. Joe got the last litter out of Boomer plus a male out out my final litter. The one thing I have noticed is the Dan traits (maybe from Wingate's Brandon) are very dominate and past on to pups. I owned Boomer for 8 of his 9 years and have meet several beaglers with a Ranger Dan dog, and generally other champions and IFCs and all have stated that their Ranger Dan dog was their favorite and there #1 gun dog.

I have a male dog out of Wingate Blonde Bomb Shell. He is a little over 16inch and has great line control with a 8 in speed. He is producing some strong puppy. I have won several speed and drive with him and his puppies are winning also. He is the red dog in my avtar picture! I breed him to a female of mine that is off a Reggie and Iris Male and Bright Sprit Buddy and turbo female. I hope I can hold them around 15 so I can AKC trial them. They are running real strong at 4months.

Who's letting you trial him at a little over 16"? Are you trialing him on fox/coyote? Not knocking it; my last litter was campaigned on fox. I was just curious if any of the rabbit trial registries had lifted the 15" limit.

I only rabbit hunt him. I can't run him in a AKC hunt ,but speed and drive that we have here well allow a 16 or 16.5 to run. Down here alot of people have 16 or 16.5 beagle that will drive a rabbit. Rocket is the only dog that i have that is over. It's sad that I can't make him a champion but the respect that he has when everybody has there gun in there hand and talk about how good of a hound his when we are done. It's good enough for me!!

bfoster wrote:Steve, Very nice post on Brandon! You've got a lot of hound knowledge and we're all blessed that you're willing to share it with us.

Deerhost, nice pup! That's what we look for in ours. The level headed breakdown, calmly work out the line, and then drive it on... A+ That ability is what allows them to compete across multiple formats and divisions. Nose power to run across gravel very nice! She looks like one we'd be happy to feed. Good Luck with her! I enjoyed your video's. I've watched a lot of beagle youtube video's that I personally don't care for the style of the hound in them, but yours was right up my ally. Keep them coming!
Glad to help.Back before computers and internet. My long distance phone bill in the 70's and 80's early 90's would be about $200. What dogs I could not go see run I called their owners and judges that watched them go as I knew could get better unbiased opinions. I didnt take just one judges opinions and never believed everything I was told as the gospel til I saw a hound winning under numerous judges. I knew then that hound was no fluke. My grandfather had beagles foxdogs coon dogs and got every hound magazine you could imagine. He brung the first fish creekers to NC aftery going up to see Fish Creek Jones My grandfather came down with cancer and died when i was 14 my father had no interest in the hounds so i got nothing from it but memories. I was so mad at my father.I learned over the years not all cottontail hounds make good hare hounds and not all hare hounds make good cottontail hounds. Brandon was one them that could walk it out or just run the living hair off if the conditions dictated such. Brandon needed no adjustment to transition or conditioning to get him ready he was like a beast threw his body and health all he had in to it an all out desire freak but had brains nose complete package thats not easy to find. Nice pups DH. Thanks Steve Church

Just wondering if anyone line breeding this line has had problems with the offspring being bashfull or kennel shy. Reason for saying, I purchased a 6 month male that had Bucks Branch Kalagha as a grandsire. (Kalagha goes back to Brandon on his bitch side) He was fine at the kennel I purchased him from, got him home, wouldn't come near anyone. I thought he would settle in, but after about a year and a half, I was the only one that could catch him in the field. I got 2 females that were direct daughters off of Kalagha, and they were ok in the kennel and field. I then bred one to a male off of Shooter and raised the majority of that litter. They were interacted with my kids and myself from day one and were not abused. But to put it mildly, those pups were bat crap crazy. It got to the point I wouldn't let my daughter or wife hold them while we wormed, gave shots or clipped nails out of fear they would get bit. And it pretty much took two people to collar them up to go hunting, one in the outside run, while the other caught them in the back of the kennel house. I have a female that goes back to Shooter, that is better, but is kind of doesn't want to come near you in the kennel. (won't come up to you, will run back to her house and won't come out so you can get her) My buddy had her littermate brother and he was saying he was the same way. All these dogs were not abused, were interacted with my entire family on a daily basis. I have had other litters and bloodlines in my kennel, and have never experienced nothing like this. I am not trying to bash, just looking from some others experiences with this line.

never seen a brandon pup or grand pups or line bred brandon hound shy. maybe the bitch crossed on kalijah introduced this. not sure only seen few kalijah hounds go for me did not have gears 4 or 5 just 1-3 conformatiion not so hot and could have extra barks cold trailed tad much. i owned one at age 1 she blew up never pressured her soloed her was looking good just would never shut up when she went cuckoo never recovered sheer idiot gave her a way as a pet. kalajah to tank bitch.

I have that female directly out of Green Bay Shooter in the videos I posted, She is a little skittish, I wouldn't call her shy but she does not like strangers. I've seen 1 or 2 others out of shooter that were the same way and have heard others say they had a few like that. As far as that coming from the Rangerdan or Brandon stuff? I don't believe that. I have pups out of that female in the video now and not one is shy, I also had a litter out of her last year breed to a FC Rangerdan son, that breeding was a double Rangerdan cross and no shy pups, and lastly I have breed my Speedy Sport female to FC Honey hollows Elvis A Rangerdan son twice and out of all those pups not one shy one. It may be coming from the bottom side of Shooter or somewhere else but I don't think it's coming from the Dan stuff. Also none of those pups I had were mouthy in the kennel. The exception was the Wingate bitch I had who may have gotten it from elswhere due to the fact she was out crossed.....DH

I have heard different people say that they have had shy dogs out of Kalagha. Not sure where it comes from and I have never owned one. But I have heard it several times. As far as the Shooter stuff I have had one. He is no longer around. He was mouthy in the kennel but not really what I would call shy or anything just wasn't a good dog. But you can't judge a stud off of one pup either.
