what style of dog for PKC
I have thought about wanting to start trialing some. There is a club not to far from me that has PKC hunts, and I was wondering what style dogs that they run in most of those trials. Any info would help. I would like to know ahead of time and not just take a wild guess. Thank you

if you have perfect scenting fast is great for pkc .. but how often do you have that? n i feel a dog that can slow down walk a line out and run fast when needed will work out in the majority of times. i seen it doen with my female ,, she wont he cast was the slowest dog there, now shes not slow but she was just ,,the slowest dog in that cast and won it easy ,,as she just kept walking it out in a hard check so she crossed the line first while they were mad dashing in all directions lol.

Beagleblues. Just go watch them run and then you can know first hand if that is what you run or not. I am sure you would be welcomed to visit, especially if you were a potential member. I don't know many clubs that are not looking for more participation.

Re: what style of dog for PKC
I see you are west of LBL. Coon Island Beagle Club is not too far from you in Neelyville, MO (northwest section of the bootheel). We have only had a couple of PKC hunts, so we are all new at it. But, we are hosting the MO State PKC Hunt on October 6th. You can look it up at http://coonislandbeagleclub.weebly.com/. We mainly do ARHA LP hunts, but thought we would try PKC as well. Also, you can run a dog a time or two as a guest w/o having to register or join PKC just to see if you like it. The only downside to that is any winnings don't count toward your dogs becoming a champion. Hope you can make it over.

Re: what style of dog for PKC
Preachersteve thanks for the invite. I just might come over and watch one. I live about 30 minutes from a club that is a coondog club and they have started having PKC beagle events so I thought that it might be something to get my girls involved in. Neelyville is about 2.5 hours from the house, but the misses is always looking for an excuse to go to Lambert's for supper.
Thanks for all the other advice. I might not have a super fast dog but she seems clean and smooth. I might just have to try her..

You're welcome. Hope to see you October 6th. Be careful at Lambert's. Every time I eat there I either commit the sin of gluttony or waste.
Actually, I do love eating there too. There have been times I almost hurt myself.
By the way, if you need directions, they are on the CIBC website.

are you the gentleman that I purchased the tritronics from. If so, we need to get together and run sometime. I got a litter of pups from my old bitch, that turned 3 weeks today. expecting big things from these. call me some time and will get together. Princeton Coon club has started having PKC hunts, and that is only about 45 min from Paducah. Look at Prohound on line and you can find dates and times.

Thanks for all the information so far.

Re: what style of dog for PKC
I have done my fair share of winning and loosing in pkc. My preference is a dog with tons of hunt and when he opens his mouth he better be able to produce. Now the fun part he either needs to be really fast or really lucky depends on how you look at it but he needs to be first or second every chance you get. If you got a dog that has alot of heart you will do well good luck and your more than welcome to come to southern indiana and check it out

Re: what style of dog for PKC
does PKC run males and females together. is there a difference with running seperate or together. my fastest dog is my male, but my female runs a cleaner line. She will clean up his messes, but on great scenting, he can run a line with out many checks at all.
thanks
