Successful hunt today, PREDATOR pic.

Post by BCBeagles »

This female yote actually was barking at us as we approached our look outs for some calling to try to get some yotes. She turned and woofed at us, then one too many times as I got the 257 Weatherby on her, LOL. We had another in the area yipping around, but one is better than none.

Anyone else seen yotes bark at humans on a regular basis? This group is EXTREMELY territorial and will run right up off the path then bark at you, doesn't seem as if they are that afraid of you?? Guns cracking does get them scared< :D , I hope real scared!

The only time I have seen or heard of coyotes barking at people were in areas where they were very familiar with people. Such as in California suburbs. I would think you have probably earned a little respect with the ones left.

I caught a double last fall while trapping them. When I walked uo to check traps there was a 3rd. one sitting there with them. I went into the wood-line about 150 yards away and stayed there for about half hour 45 minutes barking non stop. Good thing is I had him in trap next day. Sound like you are close to a den. Maybe get sneaky and lucky and get the whole litter.

Chip, have your tried using the .380 at night with dogs after them? With a good light, it is exciting and quick. I have never had a coyote but have had some success with fox. I use a Taurus .22 cal. 9 shot revolver with a six inch barrel and a laser light on the grips. If I can get them within 50 yards and have just a little bit of luck....

Good job ! .257 Weatherby has always been my dream rifle. How is it on larger game ? I bought a Weatherby Vangard last year in a WSM .300 and have been impressed with the rifle in general.
Where's the earth shattering kaboom ?

Anthony,

It was my dream gun as well and it has well lived up to what I thought it would be. It is the feather light version, with fluted stainless barrel and alloy parts. It is very light and manueveralble, it does kick real well though, but it is a lethal on deer and just about everything else. I have killed everything up to deer with it and it does its job.

I have it decked out with a 4.5 to 14 Leupold and harris bipods. I shoot 110 grain accubond bullets that have done really well! I bought it about 10 yrs ago and have kept it up and it is fun to hunt with. You would not regret buying one!!

Longest kill, 435 yds, 10 pt by my brother. The deer went about 10 yds. He aimed 2 inches over its back and took out its heart with a great shot. I have killed several at 350 plus but nothing at 400 yet.
