C section question

My female had to have a C section with this past litter, has anyone here had issues with dogs that had been opened up like that; things like hernias later in life, weak stomach walls for later litter?

i heard of 2 c section of frineds dogs never had any problems,just make sure you let her heal all the way before you put her out there,but not saying them other things cant happen,iam sure the old they are the more problems they can have

My Vet advised me Not to bred the female anymore after her C-section. She was in a long labor and having trouble. I took her to the Vet and a c-section was performed. They had to also tack the uterus due to a tare.

After the $875 in Vet bill , $200 stud fee and No pups living after the c-section ......she didn't have to worry about breeding that female again.

Nothing worse then not getting any pups after that hole ordeal. My female had her first 6 with ease but the 7th pup folded in half and blocked the birth canal my trip to the ER vet was $1100 with a stud fee of pick of the litter. Shes a young 2.5 yr old and looks to be heeling up well, I plan to keep her really low key for as long as or longer than the vet recommends since I have plenty of other dogs to run and really like this dog and don’t want anything to go wrong. Hopefully since she is so young she will heel up good and strong for a long healthy life.

My last litter ended in a c section. The female was 3 and bounced back like nothing at all happened. She was strong and hammering in about 3 wks. I ran her hard up till she had them. I got one pup and luckily she is doing super! Good luck!

My vet said you could breed again, but recommended c section to avoid issues.

With being so young she will bounce back like a champ good to hear she is doing good,

I had a female that had to have a c section and with meds and surgery it was only $375.00 but he recomended no more breeding because odds where she would never be able to have a litter on her own after but she did fine with her surgery healed up good and was back to running after the pups were weaned

Have had a couple that had c sections No problems at all.
1st one natural birth at 2 years. 5 pups
2nd liter c-section at 6 years 5 pups
3rd litter natural at 8 years 7 pups lost 2. shes done

Another female
c section due to stuck pup at 2 years 7 pups lost one
natural at 4 years 7 pups all good
natural at 8 years 6 pups all good. Done.
the biggest thing is get the pups on the momma ASAP let her wean them by the time she is done weaning pups should be ready to get back out there.

the only trouble I have had was the mom accepting the pups ---I use VICKS on the pups and mom nose and she would let them nurse--- then after they nurse she will take care of them

Thanks for the replys fellas, i know all dogs and situations are differnt but its good to know that i could probibly still make a cross and not have to worry about another C section.

I guess that I look at it from a dollars and cents view. If there has to be a 2nd C-section, it's $2200 total in Vet bills. For that kind a money....I can buy a one in a million type female.

Ya know this is a good point, i like keeping around dogs that are breed able with out issues like this. may be its in my best interest to keep a female from her litter and pass her down the line to someone with less expectations.

My female had to have a c section a few weeks ago had 7 pups in her we saved 3. She died during the night and one of the other pups ended up dying a week or so later. The last 2 pups are getting along fine but let me tell you if you dont already know.... bottle feeding takes alot of time and effort! But, there isnt much else you can you do without a foster. However, the vet did tell me that the chances of conception after a c section are minimal and if she does concieve it would be risky. If the female would have lived I wouldnt have took the chance again and I am keeping a female out of her litter and most likly wont even chance breeding her either just in case there would be a genetic inconvienence that was passed on.
