There is alot of different opinions on the board about dogs. Be honest who many dogs have you owned in your hunting lifetime, not how many years but dogs.Seems it would be hard to make some of the statements that are made on here if you havn't owned a few. Statements like I've never seen a honest dog that had a good nose or could run a rabbit! Be truthfull, just curious, maybe some people havn't seen what others have. I think I have probably had 300 or more, seen it all.

I have only been in the game for 3 years, I have owned 11 dogs total, I own 6 right now, 4 running, 1 started pup and 1 unstarted pup
2 out of the 4 running I will not part with, the other 2 running are good dogs just lack some hunt
I have been around and ran with about 100 different dogs of all sizes, colors, styles, blood

A-Head: If I told you how many I had gone through, I would have to kill you. :D I learned a little something from every one of them. You know what though? I learned even more from the people I got them from. Experience is a dire and exacting teacher. What does it say for a person if they keep repeating the same mistakes over and over and over... ?

Runninhard: From your sample set of 100, can you extrapolate anything for us? Style, blood lines, age, mouth, etc.?

after 25 years of hunting and at least 100 dogs i have came to this conclusion.....you can never know what a hound can do,,,, until you have witnessed in your life a hound doing it.....     .

Can we count hounds other people have owned that we have hunted with or did we have to own them? Just asking.

BBB, repeating the same thing over and over with the same outcome is the textbook definition of insanity.

All together i think i been threw about 10 to 15 dogs been in the game for about 6 years. At frist i never got young dogs did not care about the bloolines all i cared about if they can run the hair off a rabbit it did not seem worth the all time you put in the young dogs and not get no payback. So i stuck with 3and 4 year old dogs and new what i was getting before i bought them. The only reason i got rid of them i found something alittle better that i could aford. As i get older,i have gotten into going with the bloodlines, brains, nose, foot, drive and heart and getting pups with that bloodline to build my kennel with what i like.I have 4 dogs 1 really great dog and 2 young dogs that are doing really well also 1 pup.

Tonyallen, ...... my wife has stated the same insanity definition to me. She says you know your insane right? Every time i go to buy another hound she says ..... you keep buying these dogs over and over again hoping for a different outcome........ thats insane. The number ive had i have no clue, couldnt even guess, then i wonder how much ive spent on them, wow. :hammer:

I have been involved in raising and starting litters of pups for very close to 40 years. It never occured to me to keep count. We have always looked for the same qualities in our hounds, just when I am sure I have seen it all I am proven wrong. We paid very little attenton to bloodlines until we started fieldtrialing in 2003. The most important thing( not necesarily in this order) we were taught by Grandad was 1)DO NOT LOOSE THE RABBIT. 2) Do not walk when you can run 3) If you can't advance, do not open your mouth. 4) If they can't smell it they can't run it. 5) if they are catching rabbits, they are probably cheating :D
