Imho, some pen owners state they will feed your dogs(food cost included), others require you supply the feed.
I don't know what the agreement was, but unless I saw my hounds dipped before they were put in the pen or a cattle tag attached to the collar, I would assume it would be left up to me to provide preventive against ticks and fleas.
I just don't see the big deal about tagging your own hounds before you take them to leave at a starting pen for weeks at a time.
I think the fault falls to both sides and should serve as a learning experience. My Vet bills have a way of being a good teacher,... students, are you listening

i agree something should have been put on them before they were dropped off , i would have , but when this guy saw the ticks on them he could have pulled them off , and maybe made a phone call to see if anything had been put on them , seems like the right thing to do to me

IMO the owner of the starting pen is not responable for the ticks on the dogs. The owner of the dogs should know in the summer months ticks are out and taken precautions like putting a flee collar, or cattle tags our whatever on the dogs. Mo. Beagler 5000 IMO you over reacted and put all the blame on Clayton kennels instead of taking some blame yourself. I was talking to a friend the other day and he said his beagles got out of their pen and probably jumped a deer and were gone a week and when they came back the dogs were covered with ticks. He didn't take them to a vet, he just dipped his dogs and got the ticks off and went on about his business. Mo.Beagler 5000 i would be cautious to even let you set a foot on my land, your the type that would put a law suit on a person in a heart beat.

SLZR-- I enjoy your posts and we have talked quite a bit over the years about a bunch of stuff and argued our arses off a lot

... I am 31 and Have sued exactly 0 people. Unless you include evicting a renter from my rental property... That being said, I don't have a reason to be on your property as I don't make it to your location pretty much ever. You would be welcome on mine anytime bud.

Dave- You weren't the one who was maliciously attacked and called a child molestor. I have been on these hunting type boards 5 years or so I think and I deserve out of respect to know who is making fake loggins to harass my charachter. I make my living working with children and had an interview with DFS here today. Sorry if "turning the other Cheek" is what you would do in this situation.

TO the rest of you who think I am at fault for not putting the frontline on first, thats your opinion and I respect that. I put this topic on here so we could learn some things and move on. THats what these boards are for. If you haven't read the comments half of them agree my dogs should not have been treated the way they were and neither did a vet..... You should see my inbox from people who agree with me and have had dealings with these people before. If even half of it is true I am lucky that ticks is all that happened to my dog. I don't know if its true or not but if you guys want to your more than welcome to take your dogs to Mr. Clayton. I have a high standard of care I give me dogs and expect to get my dogs back healthy without the need of a vet.

My regular guy once called me after my dog had busted herself all up climbing a fence and one time when she caught kennel caugh. I was not mad or upset. I even paid the vet bill for it..CRAP HAPPENS I ain't trying to be vindictive guys but I pay good money to get my dogs started and keep them healthy, thats how they should be. Regardless of anything else I deserve to be able to confront my accuser face to face for insinuating the things he (and most likely she) are saying on these boards becasue its sick and out of line.

We have been awful spoiled over the years by the folks who have ran dogs for us.Whether it it was Larry Cordell,Howard Eagleton,Keven Groce or Lynn Perkins,they have cared for our dogs like they were thier own hounds.I understand the opinion that this hound owner should have used some type of preventative before putting his hound in the care of others.However I would hope that anyone that has been entrusted with someone's hounds would do thier best by them even if it meant charging the hound owner for whatever was needed.

You are right Joe, Anyone that has run my dogs over the years i have trusted them to take care of them 100%. I see why the fella is upset, he should have ask for something back for compensation. All some body has too do is call and let you know what is going on.You are oh so right we have been spoiled to death over time

i am running a dog for a feller now
if something was wrong i call right away
i put a cattle tag on him and check for tickes every time i am done running
i look at it this way
if i treat one dog good he may bring another one back
and that just good for my kennel and name

Hey Bev, these guys are way out of line here one of them being called a child molester. I have to wonder all i did was have a post about a dog being a poor producing stud and i get warned and post locked. Maybe you had a special interest in my post(DOG out of said stud) and this one you dont have any cookies in the oven on so dont care. Yeah i guess thats it. Glad you have double standards too.
