I never saw Mike Rouge go. I believe he was brought down at a later age, he was out of Mirabel LPC Rambo who went back to a lot of stuff you couldn't really get that close up. A few have stuff that goes back to him, Rick Hall, The Pflenders, Kyle Burbank, and Tim Babbitt He's behind NPLC FC Wild Mtn's Jammin Jenny, NLPC Eaton Brook Wild Mts Laurel, and FC Conejo Run Roy'l Roll Um Bowen...all of which are very good hounds.

Re: Fastest Front End Male
Osbornes Spade was awfully fast, He was fast enuff he would confuse the pack on a big running rabbit back in probaly 07 i drew him against junie at little world and told passmore it was my worst nightmare. Luckly for myself and my dog Junie got a Jump strike right in the START next rabbit was a different story and the race was on. My hound could run with anything but spade was deathly fast.Got pretty accurate turning as age caught up with him.

Re: Fastest Front End Male
I've seen some "faster" than some of the ones I mentioned, but they usually got picked up early for being too rough (overrunning, wide in the check, skirting, etc,). I measure talent & speed by how fast they can control the line not thier natural foot speed.

Re: Fastest Front End Male
Mr. Wells you are correct, accuracy with speed makes efficiency in the race. I don't care if they can run like a cheetah if they can't control the track it does not matter. Time a smooth running dog and the time it takes for a complete circle. Then time these powerhouse speed demons with losses sometimes every 50 yards, you may be surprised at your "track efficiency" as I like to call it. I will take control with foot all day and every day over sheer athletic ability and speed with lack of control. JMO
Sorry this in not in line with the question asked. Just thinking out loud. LOL.
One of the most efficient I have seen in person is Green Bay Butkus, he has plenty of foot and control of the track from where ever he may be, middle, front or back. I personally, like that about hounds, again my opinions only.
I would LOVE to see the big fast ones being mentioned that can efficiently run a rabbit correctly.

Re: Fastest Front End Male
I have seen some fast ones run it correctly, not to the tee but fast enuff they could keep a pack in check. As everyone describes i want a hound to run to catch which is actually in Mid West Bylaws. But i have yet too see but a few run as described on this topic. And yes i would love to have one cause i sure as heck can not bred what you boys are describing.

Abshire, the last time I judged Junie, he ran as close to what I like & what the AKC rulebook is or should be in my opinion promoting. So there's your measuring stick; fast , but with enough control to turn on the pack when they overran. There may have been a faster hound or two in the winners pack that day, but not with his control & checkwork.

Re: Fastest Front End Male
See to me Abby was a stable running bitch, not the quickest but quick enuff. The wierd thing was He was Faster but she was more leveled headed. Kinda 2 different styles He wanted to push her but she wanted to control his pace, i always thought maybe being a Iron Eagle daughter played a part in her style . But the reality of it was they were braced 100s of hours in there time ,and could produce to this day some of the best races i have ever heard, saw or watched.
I remember i sent Abbie to Donal when i was campaining her, he soloed her countless hours and still brings up how he loved to watch the bitch run a rabbit as to where Lewis Long had Junie and he absolutly loved the dog. Different stroke different folk. I was lucky to finish both back when i did but it took lots of hours and time too me thats what makes a hound is getting the pound and the breaks along the way.

Yeah, Abby was was a great one too. I never judged her, but ran against her. When you judge a dog, especially for a win, you get to see a lot more that you do standing in the gallery. I agree, you have to have a good enough dog, it needs to be ran correctly to get it sharp , in shape & consistent. Then to finish or win a Mid-West trial little a dose of luck doesn't hurt.
