Thanks for the prayers fellas....Update

At Church this morning I prayed hard with a lump in my throat....I believe my wife was as well because we suddenly glanced at each other quickly, but never said a word...it was a very odd moment.

Anyhow....2hrs after services we were having a get-together at my parents place with 55 other family members. My wifes phone rings and she says she needs to take it and gets up and leaves. I see her in the yard kinda crying so I walk out there...It was the neurologist (yes on Easter Sunday) and he was calling to move my daughters appointment from August 27th to tomorrow at 1pm (he wanted to meet at 8am but it is a few hours to the hospital).

We are thinking the best and that he knows it is not serious and just wants to ease our minds and clear it off the schedule.

Well, after a long day of testing at St. Vincent Childrens Hospital they diagnosed her as having Absense Epilepsy but it is in higher stages because it was not controlled when the seizures started. They estimated she is having 50-100 seizures per day based on about an hour and a half of EEG testing. The doc was great and he explained it to us in "real life" termonology that we (and her) could understand. We even got to see the computer results and he showed us what was going on in her brain waves. He said if not controlled she will start losing focus, grades will slip, and normal life will not be normal at all.

She is on two different meds to "call the cops on the house party" as he put it and then she will be on one med indefinetly to make sure the "party throwers" don't return. There is a chance she will grow out of this but she must be seizure free for 2 full years.

We have to go back in 4 weeks for more testing and based on that they will know if the diagnosis was correct....if the seizures have not improved then she will have an MRI and we are back to square one. He felt 99% confident in his diagnosis though.....

Thanks for all the prayers...I feel even though technically there is something wrong, it was a gift that her appointment was moved up because she is very active outdoors. Dr said that anything could have happened like falling down stairs, drowing, wrecking quad...etc. during a seizure and we never would have know the cause.

Make sure if you notice something is not right with you kids that they seek professional assistance and do not blow it off as "normal".

Thanks for the update. Sounds like it may be something they can take care of with medication. I can only imagine the anxiety you must have been going through. Hope she continues to improve..

My niece became very sensitive to sharp noises, then, bright light. The shooting down the road at the rifle range really upset her but we didn't know why. I told her it was the boys shooting bunny rabbits and we made kind of a funny out of it, afterward when she heard the shooting, she would smile and say, those boys shooting bunny rabbits again, she was only 3 years old but her hearing became very keen to pitched noise. That winter, snow became her fright, she would blink real fast and wanted nothing to do with it. I remember I tried to take her out and show her what fun it was to play in the snow, but it scared her and she always wanted to go back in the house. All this was before we even knew about the seizures.
There was something firing in the brain that set it off.

Im so glad they figured it out so fast and iits treatable......i normally dont ask for anything when i pray cause he has blessed me so much already but i was praying hard for her
