Re: Ring or No Ring
I use bells. Suppose to help with coyote problems. I do not know if it works or not but so far I have zero dogs that have had a coyotes attack them. Don't bother my dogs hearing either after wearing them a couple times. They can hear no problem and mind perfect with a little help from Tri-Tronics at times. Here is how good dogs can hear. If you had a 100 violins playing the same song they can hear a single note from any one of the violins at anytime. Don't think for a second a bell will make them hard to handle that's called being a beagle or lack of training! The internet is amazing the amount of proven scientific knowledge it has available not old timey tales!

I lost 2 dogs to yotes before i started useing bells ,havent lost any sence.I cant say the bells are why the yots have botherd sence but works for me.We have a lot of real thick hunting and it does help keep track of my dogs with young hunters along . Dan

The voting seems to be going predominantly "No" to the bell issue. Renews my faith.

I've found that swiss bells are the BEST. I run them at night in a pen or when I run in the open. Guys say why do that when you run a Garmin, well modern technology and human the human brain aren't always $100 guaranteed.

I can say that neither are bells. I saw a guy get his bell hung up in a fence and by the time he found it, his dog was almost dead.

My bottom line is I say if you can tolerate them and it makes you feel better about running your dogs then have at it. They didn't bother me until I quit using them..........now I can't hardly stand to hear them. At the time I did like them because it made me feel more comfortable knowing where my dogs were but the few times it interfered with them hearing stuff I decided to get rid of them. And I got a lot more comfortable after I realized I can't protect my dogs from everything and if that's what I was worried about then I better just leave them in the kennel.
One last thing is it did save a couple of dogs from getting a little poke from the ecollar on occasion. When I had called for what I figured was long enough and was ready to give them a little reminder juice I would hear a bell jingling and hold off. But at the same time once I figured I've called enough they should have already been at my feet to begin with.........imo.

I don't care for bells. I do run chain collars and have noticed that the chain often makes a clacking sound against the shock collar. I have located dogs by this and is much less annoying that a bell.
If I agreed with you then we'd both be wrong.
Re: Ring or No Ring
I used to run bells even though it was distracting because I was told it would keep the yotes away. Then one day we had three dogs down and the only one with a bell on it was killed by yotes. Now I run my dogs with garmins and don't have to hear the bells making a racket unless I'm running with friends that still use them.
