I've tried most major brands at one time or another and I now feed Diamond Hi-Energy (24/20) and like it better than anything Ive tried. I recently tried a bag of the Diamond Maintenance (yellow bag) and did not like it at all and wont buy anymore. Loose stool and the dogs always seemed hungry.

I used to feed Pride food and it was good food. If I ever get to where I cannot find Diamond I will go back to Pride, my dogs did well on it too.

Lonewolf, I've had a few pans of em like that. It's getting hard to find real cracklins now days as there are very few rendering lard. The popped pork rinds aren't even a close substitute. I like to cook a big ole cast iron pot of ham and beans using some smoked bacon rind to season out on the campfire. A cast iron skillet of corn bread goes down real well, with or without the cracklins.

I have had the best results with Diamond 24/20 year-round when I can get it. I tried the Diamond 21/12 and my hounds wouldn't eat it. When I can't get the Diamond, I feed Pride 22/16. I have one that would eat anything, but the other 2 are picky. No problem with the two I mentioned, though. I fed River Run at one time, but my hounds couldn't pass up a water hole. Too much sodium. Watch the sodium content, the more salt, the more they drink. The more they drink, the less time they are in the field hunting rabbits and the more time they are searching for a mudhole.

Hey Lonewolf, All this talk made me hungry for beans so I put me a pot of 15 bean soup together along with some smoked hocks, neckbones and a pan of cornbread. I'm bloated like a tick and you know what that means after a pot of beans!!!! For all of you in Indiana there may be an earthquake rumbling tomorrow.. ROTFLMAO

I FEED TRIPLE TRUST 21/12 & MIX A CAN OF ALPO WITH IT. MY DOGS EAT IT LIKE CANDY. THEY HAVE FIRM STOOL & NOT MUCH OF IT. AS LONG AS THEY DO AS GOOD AS THEY ARE I THINK I'LL STICK WITH IT.

I used to feed diamond green bag but it got to be around 19.75 a 50lb bag here so I switched to Pride dog food and get it for 14.00 a 50lb bag and love it.Same as diamond in all ingredients but cheaper with the same results as diamond.Heres web link if you would like to look.

All I have used since I got back into beagling is Diamond of some sort.
Diamond puppy for the pups
Diamond Hi-energy for the older ones.
Diamond Maintenance as well.

I tried one bag of BlackGold on the advice of a very respected Feist breeder here in town. I really don't know how it did, because the dogs would hardly eat it. I guess dogs have their tastes just like we do. :)

Now you fellas are gonna have to quit talking about vittles. Every time I have started to post on this thread I get hungry before I can post a reply and have to go eat. :D
This time I waited until after I had eaten.

I love Diamond Premium Adult. In the winter I mix in Diamond Professional, it will help hold weight on them. In the summer Ijust feed a little less of the premium adult, the maintenance doesn't seem to be worth the price savings.
