Terminology,

Post by gwyoung »

I thought as a service to people who are new to the Beagling trade we should list some of the terminology as used in the Beagling trade, and list what it means. please hark in!
1,Super fast chop mouth/ mouthy.
2,Average hunt/ Be careful not to step on him
3,Not Shy/ Shy
4, Hasn't been run much./ Seen all I needed to see.
5, Big Nose./ Below average nose
6, Don't know a lot about him/ Disclaimer
7, Good pack dog/ Can't circle one on his own
8,Don't fight for the front/ Very slow
9, I only run 13", This is one of my favorites. This guy wouldn't want a 15" Field Champion on the place!.

BradWV, Just about had it with them. The people I bought them from used everyone of the terms I listed to describe them. Just got three of them back after Friday's hunt and they killed 7 of the wife's chickens. wife is mad as hell, you still want that open marked male, Big Nosed dog!

No thanks on the big nosed dog, already have a couple. Now for the chicken killers, will they kill em at the neighbors and retrieve back to the house? If so, I may take one of those. Nothing like fresh yard chicken!

Brood gyp /////cant or wont run a rabbit
green started ////// doesn't have a clue
good track dog //waits for other dogs to jump
big nose /// can smell the rabbits track laid yesterday
need to sell to make room ///// cant think of a good reason for the sale
I'm sure he will finish ///// doesn't have a chance
tight mouth ///// refuses to barks on track
hot nose /////// cant smell a rabbit over 12 inches from his nose
I would buy him if I had the room ////// trying to help a friend make a sale
he has All day hunt //// Mostly an Alaskan term for a two hour day
Must be kenneled with females /////// Alligator.. choot, choot. choot Elisabeth
I'm not a dog jockey ////// moves more dogs than the local dog catcher
He put him in the hole ///// lost rabbit and cant find it
Hunts hard after the first rabbit is run ////// If the spirit moves him
Natural broke, wont run anything but a rabbit ////// place mirror in front of nose and see if he is breathing
He's not over 15 inches ////// duel purpose dog....rabbit hound by day and coonhound by night
To fast for my pack //// over runs the track and is a check maker
to slow for my pack ////// rabbit gets social security before you see it again
Was shocked off deer and hasn't run one since ///// hasn't been off the chain since then either

Been in the business a while

Dave Swiger, You think that is bad, ( and it is) before I knew as much as I do now, I had a dog trader foist a " Good Brood Male" off on me. I never had any dealings with him after that.

I bought this one.
Not started, nine months old, litter mate started and I liked her so much that I decided to sell this one and spend my time on the one that is started. Brought her home, put her in her kennel, when one of my other dogs barked she ran the fence trying to hark to them. That was my first clue. Once she was in the field I learned she had no nose at all, strictly a pack dog.

The ones I see the most:

6 month - 18 month dogs..."haven't had time to start" / tried everything possible and the dog just won't run a rabbit

Dog hunted over hard all season/ dog hasn't been out of the kennel in months...that's why it's nails are an inch long (a word of advise- if your going to claim you've been hunting your dog hard...at least trim it's nails before you take the picture to put in the post)

Trash broke/ A fine deer dog prospect

Handles Great / Dog probably don't know it's name, but won't leave your feet

never had him run trash= aint had him long enuff to find out or your opinion of trash is different than mine!!!!

lightly started= dont know a thing!!!

after a long hard decision= i hope i can pawn this crapeater off on someone!!!

free= junk

pops off a lil on a frosty morning= barks when he hits the ground off the tailgate!!!

loves the brush = you couldnt get him in a thicket to save your life!!!

hunts close= stepping on him everytime you move!!!

and my personal favorite

has lots of potential= ive done ever thing im capable of but maybe you have better luck than me!!!
