Had someting happen a couple of weeks ago that I thought I would share. A friend and I had let the hounds loose on one of my favorite public hunting spots and had gotten about 150 yards from the truck when the old girl starts getting hot on a track. She goes over a small hill about 50yards in front of me and stops on the GPS , I figured she had cold tracked it to a hole or brush pile and was trying to get it moveing. A minute or two went by and I see the pup go by her on the GPS and never paid her any attention, kept going. Made me a little currious so I went to the old girl and there she was in a conibear, for all purposes dead as a doornail. I got her out off the thing asap and was sure she had died but began cpr and she started to show signs of life. After about 5 minutes she started to come completely around and soon recovered. She and I got lucky. After all this I noticed five more conibears in the 20 ft surrounding the dog, if the pup had gotten into one when she had gone by on the gps I would not have went to them so soon and probably would have lost both dogs. Without being able to get to her as fast as I did with the Garmin I would have atleast lost the old girl as I think a few more seconds in that thing was about all she had left. Believe me I feel as if my Garmin more than paid for it's self... Thanks Garmin.

Im sold Im going to Cabelas the day after christmas and Im buying the 320 and a dc-40. Glad to hear a great story like this. I guarentee no other tracking system will do that for ya!!! I know the trappers have just as much right to be there as we do, but there is plenty of private ground people would gladly let you trap if you ask them.

I don't know about MN, but in MO is is illegal to set a conibear with over a five inch jaw on land. Also, in MO traps must have tags with the owners name and address. Glad your situation turned out well. You are right, she didn't have long to live because this type of trap gets tighter and tighter the more the animal struggles. So, you were very lucky to save her even with the Garmin. She definitely wouldn't have had a chance if you had not been able to see a problem and go straight to her w/o the GPS. Good luck on future hunts.

I have lost dogs in the CONIBEAR --with the beep-beep trackers-- now if one [dog ] stops for any time at all ---they are either eating a gut pile or hung --trap or fence --glad everything worked out for you
ALWAY GO BY THE RULES AND NEVER A PROBLEM

They're great thats for sure! Another great use is to give a collar to someone not real farmilar with a area. They come in handy when it comes to bear hunting big country with clients from away.Just a little reassurance to know where everyone is at all times........Once ya have one, ya wonder how ya got by without it...........
