what do you wear?stavemillbeagles wrote:the same thing has happened to my wife and I we both have been wearing the muck boots for a few years and both have developed Planter Facsitisdeerhost wrote:I've been using Muck boots for the last 4 years to run my dogs and rabbit hunt. I love the mucks, but I run 3 and sometimes 4 times a week and I developed Planter Facsitis ( Heel spurs) in my left foot and at times I almost can not walk due to the pain. My muck boots make it worse due to the fact that they do not give me enough arch support.
we both wear inserts in our boots now but we don't wear mucks any longer. I also have a good friend thats going through the same thing.

I have talked to many old timers about boots and everyone of them said rubber boots and boots such as muck boots cause you to have bad feet if you wear them for any period of time.

Lebro, Stretching the calf muscle thrue out the day takes the stress off the Planter fascia( tight connective tissue bettween the toes and heel) and relieves the pain. You must stretch the calf as much as you can thrue out the day. Orthotics also can help but they do not help me when wearing the muck boots. The problem with the mucks is that the sole is to flexible for me. Be carefull when you sleep that the bed sheets dont put your foot into planter flexion which means that if you sleep on your back the bed sheets push your toes down and tighten your calf. Then when you get up and step down in the morning you stress the tight fascia and you get pain. Some people wear a brace at night to keep there toes ponted up so that the fascia heals in that position. Ice it often and sometimes a contrast bath of warm and cold 3 minutes in the warm water followed by 1 in cold water and repeat it a few times can help. If all that fails then see a Dr. for a Cortizon shot in your heel and a Physical Therapist who can help greatly. I'm almost positive that my condition came on from wearing the "mucks" I love them dearly but are not ment to be worn too often. I and see people with this conditon often at work but I never thought it would be me....Good luck...DH

dh thanks. i have seen a dr as i can tell you have too. i dont wear muck boots but am looking for some good hunting boots. my climbing boots seem to be the best for my foot but they are not hunting boots. i spend by far most of my awake hours in boots on my feet. all the advice on this post is greaTLY APPRECIATED.

X2 what deerhunter said... i had plantar fasciitis surgery last year. The night boot helped me in the am but after about 10 am nothing would help. Custom inserts helped a bit, but were hard to walk sideways across hills(off camber)beause they were too hard and my feet would slip out of my shoes. Spenco RX inserts were recommended. http://www.spenco.com/products/footcare ... ee-quarter
These work great $27.99 and my feet feel great(surgery does not cure you...at least me it didnt). the only thing is I might try them in full length instead of 3/4 because they slide to front of boot when puttung shoes on. they also make a thinner version for dress/tennis shoes. Tried their arch cushions as well(did nothing for me).
Hopefully, you will get relief from the pain...most people do not have to have surgery. Guess I am lucky.Do the stretching and night boot if you can Let me know if you try the spenco rx and if they work for you. BTW..when using the spencos, you can totally remove your stock insoles if you feel your shoes are too tight. Ron

I prefer Cabellas Kangaroo Skin Boots with gore-tex membrane. Light comfortable and waterproof. I also use inserts from the orthopoedic doctor at the Veterans Hospital. The boots are made roomy (square toe) enough to fit the insoles and a heavy pair of socks when its cold.

Andre,
I wore my new Cabela's Ultralights yesterday for several hours of walking and they were great!! They are the new Mendl Ultralight by Cabelas. They feel like a running shoe on your foot, very roomy with width, which is bad for me, but the comfort of them more than makes up. Good luck!!
