Ky Guys any land to lease for hunting?

Post by Jamey O. Damron »

During black powder season we found out the lease we been hunting on in Lewis Co. for the last 9 years, a big block of is up for public auction. When we first started hunting there the guy we leased it off was dairy farming and logging but in the last 4-5 years things have went down hill for him, so i guess he is doing what a lot of other would sell some land he has had for years. We have deer, turkey and rabbit hunted on this land but mostly deer hunted it. We thought we had some leased in Scott Co. that farmer had to make sure from the guy from year before so he took it again. If any one knows of any land for lease or just would let some hunt it PLEASE let me know I live in Pike Co. so were looking for something in a zone 1or 2 where we can shoot a doe my 13 year old daughter likes to shoot. ANY info would be great just pm or call. THANKS VERY MUCH Jamey O. Damron (606) 424-2059

Jamey I hope that you find something. The leases in NC are outrageous. Our lease on 3000 acres is $4.60 an acre ($13,800). Eight of us picked up a track of only a little over 300 arcres and the land owner ask $16.50 an acre ( But Prime Deer Hunting ) for that.

Game land in NC seems to be over run with people and game harder to find. It's getting hard for a working man to find a place to hunt. :(

Guys this is only going to get worse as the years go by. For years I have said that if a perosn don't own or lease land they will be very limited to where they can hunt. I see signs all over here in the back country of southern Indiana where there is a land leasing agent that handles properties for land owners and leases them out. They have a web site and it is a matter of no time that the land is posted with their lease info. I used to travel to the amish country in Rockville, IN and ALL that prime country had these lease agent signs on it. I have now seen the very same signs on pieces of property around my very area with some adjoining the state lands. I've also noticed that the mines have for sale signs on tons of property that couldn't have been bought ten years ago and you can bet that the lease agents will be delving into that as well. Another thing I have said is that all this prime hunting mine property will be closed to public hunting and I'll wager this will happen. Times have changed and with the economy the way it is anyone or any company paying taxes on idle property is becoming a thing of the past. The mines have a terndency to even donate large parcels to the state DNR and then you have restrictions out the back side if you can hunt them at all. There is mine property south of Dugger just as I describe and when the DNR takes it over they put little to no effort into the small game but cater to the deer and turkey as thiose bring in the most revenue from licenses.

Jamey, there is a show on the Pursuit channel (hunting) that has land leases all over. It comes on late Sunday night and I have seen them show land in Kentucky.

They seems to never show a lease price but sure have some nice property's. It may be worth a try.

Guys thanks for the info. Ill try to watch for the leases on that chanel. Every year it seems to be getting harder to keep good hunting spots and is even harder to find new ones. We been hunting this area since 2002 and have made some good friends, its tuff to see what these farmers are going through now.
